I suspect it's hard to judge the quality of an individual player in an amature team . Take Kellet he performed very well in a championship game but presumably was never going to be considered for a Lions tour.  I suspect to be picked you need first to be palying in Conf premier divison and then in a top six team.  Reality is someone  could probably pick 13 from Conf 1 and 2 equally capable as the Brow and Hunslet picks who were selected for the Lolns tour.

I'm sure Jack has already played for the lions, u23s, I think, and the lions in aus at present have players in from division 1 and 2,  plus 4 of the players in the squad in aus are definitely not from top 6 premiership clubs, they are from both Kells and Egremont, who have sadly being relegated this season. This in itself shows the talent we have locally, people should get them selves to a amature game, see what the local clubs are producing.

Have to agree, there is a whole host of players playing across all levels of the amateur game who could easily step up and handle League 1 rugby.

Not entirely sure how the BARLA GB / England selection process works nowadays?

Do clubs put players forward?

Sadly, BARLA don't do tours any more, except the Bulldog tours. All tours are run by the rfl, a lot of semi pro rugby supporters have a lot to say about amateur players, but I would be very surprised if they watched any of the games.

Yeah then they question if they're good enough if they sign 🤣 some of the time amateur games are more enjoyable then the semi pro games!

I think the biggest jump is from League 1 up to Championship level, as I mentioned previously there are plenty out there who could easily handle League 1

Players get put forward and there is a trial game

So it's not necessary the best players selected really depends if your club puts you forward or not.

I would say that for various reasons (family commitments Etc) there will players who request not to be put forward,

I would love to know who’s recommending players 🤦🏼‍♂️

Tutty will have recommended Ellis as he coached him last season. not sure about any of the other players.

I think he means recommending for the tours?

The club coachs recommend them, then its up to the players to attend trial games.

Yeah I know, I was referring to Haven123 saying he'd love to know who is recommending players, I think wires have been crossed by his comment, the confusion being those who are going on tours to those who are signing.

Plenty of young local lads seem to be signing hopefully a few of them can thrive at League 1 level.

I do think we need four or five seasoned professionals particularly around half backs hooker and we look very light in the front row.

Unfortunately for Whitehaven those seasoned pros cost money, therefore I think you'll be very lucky to get another 4 or 5 of that calibre.

I'm guessing most of the young, local lads are signing for the chance to step up and have a go as opposed to signing up for the money, which is great for the club as it looks to basically start from scratch

Good player, we had 6 good wingers , you now have 2 of them - good signing and good luck
