It's for 2023, so already feels a bit out of date. The number of registered players and matches held per country makes interesting, and sobering, reading.

Especially France - EDIT: which has a low number though higher than I wrote at first.

8,767 is the figure I see, unless I am looking at a different chart?

AND THESE ARE MY NEW GLASSES

I'll edit the number - still under 10,000 which seems to be a threshold to aim for.

Sobering in some cases, but the growth in participation numbers in England is great, as in Serbia, Greece, Holland and Wales. And who knew there are nearly a thousand people playing rugby league in Burundi.

Well done to Serbia, Greece & Netherlands.

It's obviously from small bases, but they seem to be making good progress in terms of player numbers domestically and number of international matches they play. Doing things the right way, building foundations.

Pretty sobering reading really. There are only 3 countries in Europe -England, France and Wales - where there is any significant RL activity. Acorns of growth in Serbia, Greece and the Netherlands and hopefully they'll continue to grow.

The numbers for Italy, Scotland, Ireland and Lebanon are absolutely shocking though considering these countries were in the last world cup. There is virtually no local activity and that needs to improve or those countries will be lost to RL.

They already are lost to RL, people can pretend that their international teams represent their country all they like but they don’t.

And, further ahead on the growth curve, Wales seems to be doing the same.

It would be interesting to hear what's next for any of these countries in terms of development.

A long ago poster on here is involved with floorball. I'm using that because I think most people wouldn't necessarily know the game and because I have mentioned handball enough.

Floorball has 707 registered adult players in this country.

Rugby league has, in Europe, just four countries bigger by participation than floorball is in the UK. Additionally, one in the Americas (USA with 725), and, positively, four in Africa creep past that mark.

We have a lot of work to do.

Although that's true and I agree that there is a lot of work to do, looking at relative populations this means approximately 1 in 96,000 in the UK play floorball but 1 in 8,500 in Serbia play RL.

Now do what 725 players in the US is!

(I do take your point. Also, we're kicking floorball's bottom in Serbia.)

Lebanon should not be in the WC.

If they weren't full of Australian heritage players then they wouldn't be.

As an aside - having not known what floorball is, I've just looked it up and interestingly I played it (or a variant) in PE at school in the early 90s. We called it Unihoc.

Had to Google Floorball, genuinely never head of it, which of course tells it all.
