HaxbyKnight Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 The club are holding a fans forum next Wednesday, 27th, at the LNER stadium. Hopefully we'll get more detail about the IMG grading. 2 2

Not as full as previous forums. Felt like there was not much atmosphere. Microphones didn't work properly. Positives: Great news/update re the fantastic work that the foundation are doing. IMG we're in a good position. We'll have a big screen this season. Good spread of youth and experience in the squad of 30 players signed up. Clint told us he'd sold two of his businesses to fund the knights/valks and York was his city. He was looking forward to super league and silverware and then he'd celebrate. Maybe it's the cynic in me that says it could be so that he could sell his share and recoup his investments. Didn't give a reason why the football crowds are sold out and the knights can fill only one stand. Wish I knew. All in all, you didn't miss much. 1

Constantly changing rules and formats. They help out certain clubs and img has only served to compound the problem. Football crowds would soon decrease if they were run by the rfl 1 sometimes you have to take a step backwards to move forward
georgeb1 Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 Last season mark applegarth won the fans over with his honesty, enthusiasm and interaction with supporters. Cint needs to work on these skills to gain the full backing of the supporter's and the potential the city offers. 3
Gav Wilson Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 It was a weird one last night. Felt very much like a meeting that could have been an email. 2 @GavWilson

Probably felt obliged to hold a fan's forum to show willing, when there's not really a lot to say. On the team front, I quite like the fact it's not wholesale changes next season and just a few new players with potential to get better or in McShane's case to improve as a coach and pass on his experience to lads like O'Neill & Pemberton, much rather that than only signing players who are on their way out and grabbing a few quid. We did extraordinarily well in the second half of last season, hopefully we can hit the ground running and improve on that next year. Wish we'd sign some social media types though, hasn't been the same since Joe left really. It's all a bit meh on that front. 4 http://www.alldesignandprint.co.uk Printing & Graphic Design with Nationwide Service Programmes | Leaflets | Cards | Banners & Flags | Letterheads | Tickets | Magazines | Folders | Brand Identity plus much more Official Matchday Programme Print & Design Partner to York City Knights, Heworth ARLFC, York Acorn RLFC & Hunslet RLFC Official Player Sponsor of Marcus Stock for the 2020 Season

Totally agree with all that, we're one big lump of a lad away from a very good squad (Liam Kay would be a lovely bonus too). Clint's philosophy on roster management is sound, in fairness. I agree with him on his views about IMG too. I don't think York make it to Super League (and stay there) without more substantial investment though, however a lot of the building blocks are in place. The media department is far too big for one lad fresh out of Uni. IMO you need someone focussed on the Knights, someone on Valkyre and someone on the Foundation. They all working to a strict set of brand guidelines, but allowed to have a little bit of fun and be personal and engaging when appropriate. Thankfully we finally seem to be moving away from everything being presented in an annoying video clip. Kit not being out until after Christmas is a shame, but O'Neill's do quality gear so I'm sure will be worth the wait. Crowds will improve when we are consistently winning, but they won't boom until if (when) we get to Super League. Comparisons with YCFC are pointless, its a completely different beast. 3 @GavWilson
cookesp Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 I went last night and agree with comments above, it was a bit flat. Might have been an idea to have Mark Applegarth and Lindsey Anfield there plus a couple of players. I don’t know enough about how the finance works at this level but I guess we will be restricted until / unless someone with a load of cash (that he / she is prepared to lose / give away) comes along to invest. I like Clint, he’s a bit brusque at times, but I think he is doing his best for the club, albeit I’m not 100% sure what’s in it for him until we do get into SL. I should have asked how, in these circumstances, the Valkyrie can continue to compete with the likes of Saints, Wigan and Leeds who I assume have much bigger budgets. I see Saints women started training yesterday. If the challenge cup starts in March, that’s a long pre-season ! 2
HaxbyKnight Posted November 28, 2024 Author Posted November 28, 2024 It was not very well organised. It was difficult to hear what was said stood at the back, and I thought Clint should have gone into detail about the IMG score rather than say it was available on Google. A but of a wasted journey really.

Exactly, don't know why people try to compare the two really. Yes it would be nice if we could attract similar crowds to football but they are not the same thing at all. Leeds Rhinos get less than half of the crowds Leeds Utd get and you don't hear people comparing. 2 different sports, one is the most popular sport in the world, the other isn't anywhere near. 5 http://www.alldesignandprint.co.uk Printing & Graphic Design with Nationwide Service Programmes | Leaflets | Cards | Banners & Flags | Letterheads | Tickets | Magazines | Folders | Brand Identity plus much more Official Matchday Programme Print & Design Partner to York City Knights, Heworth ARLFC, York Acorn RLFC & Hunslet RLFC Official Player Sponsor of Marcus Stock for the 2020 Season
