Pennine League strcuture

Recommended Posts

I think you could work towards an NCL bid as you're now much closer to the criteria. The main issue is you need to make sure you've got players committed to a March start regardless of winter. A reserve team in the entry league would help (even if they were RU players)

For what it's worth all 4 additions from the Pennine league are up to scratch but can't see them going for any of the other Pennine league sides unless West Bowling over came their opposition to summer. Brighouse have potential possibly other clubs do but aren't ready yet

Re above what a sad time for the Pennine League and even more so for the hard working supporters of some very well run clubs who have been 'forced out'. The NCL haven't exactly covered themselves in glory either if the stories of underground scalping of Pennine League sides are true. But I forget, like the NCL seemingly do, their own minimum entry requirments are only useful to keep sides out they don't like but are conveniently forgetten when they are pillaging the Pennine League for teams to join them!

Still if these sides do join the Yorkshire Mens League it will spice up the competion particuarly the premier division where there are still too many fixtures called off particularly by the self labelled 'cream' NCL sides 'A' teams!

How is that bitter pill you seem to be swallowing.

I take it you support or are involved with a team in the mens summer comp but maybe would like to be in the NCL.

What requirement's have the new clubs not meet for acceptance into the ncl and which teams have meet them but were not allowed in the NCL.

With regards the mens league its hard to see if it was mainly a teams that called off games because I lot of matches were called off then played later in the season, looking at the 24 nil results I can see they involved 3 a teams and 2 none NCL clubs.

This is the first time in have seen anyone label teams a the self labeled cream.

I hope the very heavy chip on your shoulder soon goes

A few of the teams at the bottom of YML premier were slightly out of their depth so some new clubs switching to summer would be better for everyone (except the Pennine league) in my opinion. The only A teams that were that bad were Milford, Stanningley and Castleford Panthers and to be honest I expect Milford would go fine in a lower division.

I agree if the clubs that have mentioned moving to summer do the mens summer premier should be competitive.

Its a bit rich coming from a Bramley supporter or official  who at the start of most seasons cant raise a team and are allowed to postpone games.

Now that Bramley have joined with Rodley juniors I would presume that they would have a greater chance to be recommended by the NCL management for application to the league and the clubs can decide.I would have thought the reaction when they didn't pass criteria last time and the bad press they created may count against them in some clubs eyes.

Yeah I think the postponing games at the start of a season would keep Bramley out of the NCL. Otherwise they're much closer to meeting criteria but need to lose the sense of entitlement to appeal to clubs voting. If they address the issues I'd gladly see Bramley in the NCL but I can't say I'm a fan of the club afer the way they acted.

From what I can see they have some very good support behind the scenes as in money raised, they seem to do well with sponsorship deals and a very well run website.

On the playing side im not sure who are Bramley players and who are lads playing a bit for summer and going back to the main team in the winter,They will need to make sure the vast majority are Bramley players for them to really succeed in the NCL and like you say not postpone games early season as the Ncl may vote teams for re election if they postpone one game any more and Im not sure.

The biggest problem I see with the club is the attitude they give out of poor old us everyone is against us when they don't get what they want. They couldn't join the Pennine because the Leeds clubs voted against them joining the local district, why was that they must have had their reasons, also why did they only apply to join their local district when they needed them to join a winter league.

The first question any local league chairman would ask any newly formed club is where are you getting your players from, if the answer is from your teams Mr Chairman the phrase about turkeys voting for Christmas spring to mind.

True. I assumed the answer was the former Rodley Rockets but maybe not

Bramley's merger with Rodley brought in a whole squad of new winter players only 2 had previously turned out for the summer side so no winter players from other clubs. My understanding was league asked if Bramley felt they were premier league standard answer no just replacing Rodley - vote was no. In fact most players now at a separate new club Leeds Underdogs who were voted in by the Leeds district! Where's the logic in that it would make even a saint bitter.

Halifax Irish booted out at last Pennine meeting.

Well we have heard so but they haven't seen fit to send us a letter or any form of communication.

We're bitterly disappointed at the way we have been treat, basically with contempt.

It's a combination of general decline in the game, better clubs migrating to the NCL, players doubling up with summer and some clubs losing players to summer in my opinion plus the Pennine league's inflexibility in approaching the change. Last season was when the problems started IMO

Well explained Bowes!I agree with everything you say. By the way to not even send Halifax Irish a letter is inexcusable.

None of our corrspondence has been acknowledged, we've been in the pennine for 20 years, ever since our formation. Illingworth and Brighouse both for condsiderably longer, surely we all deserved a little bit of respect?

The Pennine seem to have gone from being the best run league to a complete shambles over the last 2-3 years. Did they grow too big?

The 2012-13 season seemed successful and actually gained some teams from summer but last season clubs started dropping out and calling off games especially in the higher divisions which has just snowballed this season. I don't think letting Fryston in was the smartest move to be honest either.

Even Queens seem a shadow of their former selves

They could do worse than get Roger Fagge on board to grab things by the scruff of the neck and try and salvage something. Frightening that Sue Taylor has the top role within BARLA and Pennine league and seems to be unable to do anything to arrest the decline

Is she the problem, now on the RFL community board, BARLA and Pennine??

Can we not get a statement from her actually stating her/BARLA/Pennine/Community intensions for the game

Is sitting on the fence destroying the game?

Dissolve BARLA and merge all assets with the RFL?

Move the Pennine to summer or keep traditional?

Promote Summer?

Promote Traditional?

We need one body is this the RFL/BARLA/an other?

Is the community game heading in the right direction?

Do we need one season?

Is the game going to die with summer/traditional seasons

The RFL only seem interested with the top tier of the game?

We are a minority sport with the governing body saying they will invest £11 million to 2017 to increase participation, where will it be spent and when?

The new summer season plays 80% of the months the traditional season did, why is it not working and increasing participation at the rate everyone thought it would?

The game outside the Heartlands is struggling to progress where does it go?
