Russell Packer and Ben Matulino retire from NZ rep teams.

Aaron Woods could be running out for the Sharks this Saturday night, according to veteran rugby league journalist and Cronulla supporter Phil Rothfield.

It's all go ... literally...

Darius Boyd has suddenly announced his retirement from Rep Footy.

Don't know whether this is a considered move (ought to be) or just a reaction to being left out of Origin 1 and a strained relationship with Kevin Walter QLD Coach

The NRL is moving ahead with plans to open the season in the US next year despite resistance to next weekend's one-off Test between England and New Zealand in Denver due to the travel involved.

NRL officials haven't been deterred by the lack of support from clubs and the game's stakeholders for the Denver Test, edging closer towards a historic match to open the season in California next year a week before the rest of the Telstra Premiership kicks off on home soil.

It's unfortunate that, for travel reasons, the obvious place to play is on the West Coast when most of the USA RL development is on the other side of the country.

Hypocrisy at it's finest.

Rumoured that Robbie Farah is seeking to leave Souths and rejoin Tigers asap.

No thanks. We are having a problem at 9, though so they will probably take him back. Jacob Liddle hasn't kicked on quite as hoped, McIlwrick's been injured. I don't like playing Elijah Taylor at 9 because he's our top tackler so we shouldn't overwork him.

Tyrone Roberts will return to the Gold Coast Titans at the end of 2018 on compassionate grounds, after he activated a clause in his contract that allows him to leave Warrington Wolves to return to the NRL.

Is he going back to the Titans, though? They've already got Kane Elgey playing in Q Cup, so I don't know how they would use Roberts.

It did say that he was activating a clause that he could leave after the first year of his three year (I think) contract. after a year. He has quoted his family’s homesickness as the trigger.

The local Warrington newspaper says just that he will return to the NRL.

He will play out the rest of this season at Warrington.

Talk is that Blake Austin isn't wanted by Canberra next season. He has said he would like to move to somewhere near his hometown of Sydney.

Parramatta have apparently shown interest.

So have Storm.

Maybe the chance to play in the Storm system under Craig bellamy will be enough to tempt ime to Melbourne.

As for his game I'm sure it would improve his consistency and standing in the game were he to be taken on by Storm.

Angus Crichton is rumoured to be about to backflip on his deal to join arch rivals Sydney Roosters and remain at Souths in 2019.

Some say that Roosters still haven’t sorted out some of Crichton’s third party deals, putting the move in jeopardy.

Having said that the general feeling is that he will move to Roosters and that Souths are looking to replace him with for example Corey Oates who they see as having the makings of a quality back rower.

The second-row forward was recently speculated to be considering backflipping on his Roosters contract to re-sign with South Sydney – though Angus Crichton has been quick to shut rumours down.

The Blues player signed a three-year contract to join the Tricolours from 2019; but with the Rabbitohs beginning to look like a genuine NRL premiership threat, the forward has been rumoured to have intentions to stay on.

The rookie Origin player bluntly shut down the speculation on Wednesday; after becoming the subject of social media abuse in regard to signing with the rival team, it appears as though Crichton won’t subscribe to any more hate.

“Being a footy player, it doesn’t matter how good you’re going, there’s always going to be people giving it to you. It’s about how you take it and he’s taken it pretty well,” teammate Jack Gosiewski told foxsports.com.au.

“I don’t understand why people speak to him the way they do when he’s trying to set himself up for life and do what’s best for his footy career,” Gosiewski said.

When further asked for clarification, Crichton had only two short responses: “nope” to backflip rumours, and “yep” to confirmation on his plans to join the Roosters. suggesting the young Rabbitohs player isn’t particularly happy about the gossip.

Edrick Lee set to join the Knights on a three-year deal beginning next season.

Lee has played 83 games across seven seasons for Canberra and Cronulla, and has seven tries from 11 appearances for the Sharks so far in 2018.

The 25-year-old can play anywhere across the backline, and Newcastle’s General Manager of Football Darren Mooney was thrilled to bring the talented Lee on board.

Apparently Feki has been told that if he can find a suitable club and contract, he should consider it...

with the news about Lee above, I feel more and more likely that we will hear some good news about Barba returning and we will hear it very soon.

I don’t think Lee is a bad signing for the knights , more than handy squad player who won’t let you down . Shame for wade graham . Would have been Origin certainty you’d reckon he’s got everything , sharks need him if they’re to get right to the end

Queensland's attempts to salvage some pride in the final 2018 State of Origin game have taken a further hit, with captain Greg Inglis ruled out with a broken thumb.

The Queensland Rugby League announced it was delaying the naming of the Queensland team for the dead rubber at Lang Park on July 11 after Inglis injured his hand during South Sydney's last-gasp win over the North Queensland Cowboys in Cairns.

The captain's injury came after young gun Kalyn Ponga was ruled out with a hamstring injury picked up during Newcastle's defeat by Canterbury on Saturday evening, and prop Dylan Napa left the field with a knee injury during the Sydney Roosters loss to the Melbourne Storm on Friday.
