Great game in the sunshine at Mayfield, the lead changing hands on several occasions.Weak tackling by siddal but good attacking play.Mayfield's no 7 was the games outstanding player for me with his general play, astute varied kicks, whilst siddal's no 7 continues with his non stop policy of bomb after bomb after bomb being defused week after week,i don't know if this is the coaches instructions or not !!...siddal nudged in front 5 mins from end with a 80 yard interception try, mayfield scored with last play of game ,converted for the win .

Leigh Miners 32 v 8 Wath Brow Hornets

Leigh Miners bounced back from last weeks Challenge Cup defeat with a 32-8 victory against Wath Brow Hornets on a chilly afternoon at Twist Lane, Miners being far from convincing against a understrength Brow side, making four changes from the York defeat with Chris Bowers, Jimmy Muir, Mark Nicholson and Bud Skinkis coming in for Shaun Dowie, Ellis Grimes, Jack Probert and Jonny Youds.

Miners where always in control of the contest and never looked like losing the game, but where made to work hard by an enthusiastic Cumbrian outfit who had a few of their key dominoes missing through injury. The opening points of the game came just after the twenty five minute mark, Scott O'Brien capitalising on a knock on from Wath Brow inside their own in goal to touch down and score, Jimmy Muir converting to make it 6-0. Tommy Parkinson barged over five minutes later for a second home try and that was followed by a try right on half time from centre Brad Hargreaves, Tony Doyle adding the extras to give Miners a 16-0 half time advantage.

The second half was scrappy again from Miners with them being frustrated by a determined Wath Brow side who never gave in and was a credit to their club. Danny Jackson who was the stand out performer for the home side scored a double just short of the hour and that was followed by a second Scott O'Brien try, Tony Doyle adding the extras for two of the three tries to give Miners a 32-0 lead. The visitors scored two tries in the final ten minutes from Callum Farrer and Karl Dixon to give the final score 32-8.

From the team that played in last seasons Grand Final they were without the Huby brothers(Barla internationals)Fran King and Peter Caddy(Both Barla internationals),Adam Ramsden(ex Whitehaven pro)Tomlinson,Troughton,Dawson,Doran and Jamie Martin.Thats a lot of talent missing and i can see why they are struggling!
