Laughing stock? - you're having a laugh !

Some people insist our club is a 'Laughing stock' - well just a few thoughts after yesterday & recent events.

Lee Waterman see's fit to join the club despite been fully aware of the current difficulties - and forget the 'its just a signing to get the fans on-board garbage' - head coach asked and head coach got

Adam Prentis - an intelligent & ambitious guy - sees fit to re-join the club

The team yesterday - roughly 8 or 9 local lads who have come through the academy/reserves at this club, have made 1st team and every single one of them is an outstanding talent

As vice president's we get lunch provided - didn't know what to expect at Clifton Park, but actually thought it was better the HS (Chip's, pork pies, dog rolls, sandwiches will do for me anytime)

Our 2 mothers go to home games - one can't see very well & one has a dodgy hip - they got 2 seats in the very small stand yesterday and were actually escorted to their seats and at the end of the game were escorted out again

So - like most clubs we get some things wrong, but we get a hell of a lot of stuff right & people should get the respect the deserve for achieving that

I'm glad you're happy Colin, must admit I was impressed by the facilities and it's an outstanding little setup for amateur Rugby Union and Cricket. Even more impressed that I could just ride a motorbike into the ground, park up pitchside and watch the game without any of that turnstile nonsense we normally have to go through! Hopefully the council will see fit to install a facility whereby I can do that at the new stadium.

On the playing side of things I'm delighted to see so many young, local lads coming through and showing what they can do. As a supporter of the the sport locally for 30 odd years it's fantastic and a real credit to the coaching setup at the club that they've gone down this route rather than trying to buy success. Lee Waterman will be a great addition and it's good to have a character (and goal kicker!) like him back at the club, I never wanted him to leave in the first place.

Not one person has ever doubted or disrespected the playing side of things recently either, or the community stuff, or the hospitality, or the fact you're mother gets looked after with her dodgy hip. But if you'd just take those shades off, you'd see that "club" is still a massive laughing stock throughout the city and the game and until things change "at the top" it will continue to be seen that way I'm afraid.

Glad you enjoyed your dinner though, might have to pay £350 and become a vice-president so I can sample some of that delicious pork pie!

Can't agree with some of that Simon but that's not a problem.

I thought the facilities were very good, but obviously not the answer in anyway shape or form long term and was just glad it didn't pee down yesterday

Pork pies - 4 different types (normal, black pudding, apple, cheese) - worth £350 of anybody's money...

Fruit? In a pork pie? Everything that's wrong with the modern world right there.

What breed of dog was in the dog roll ? not keen on German Shepherd can be a bit tough and chewy.

I thought the pork pies were great. I had the black pudding top.

We enjoyed the day and the people around me in the ministand (can't call it a Grandstand) were really friendly.

There was a little sour note and I'm not prepared to disclose what it was on a public forum but if any of the York Knights Directors want to contact me I'd be happy to share a little constructive criticism.

I went along to this game, mainly to see rugby league played at Clifton Park. I've lived in York for about seven years. York aren't my team but, during this time, I've attended several matches at Huntington (a God awful venue) and, while working in the North East before that, a handful at Wigginton Road (fantastic).

On a lovely, sunny day, with just a few hundred spectators watching, Clifton Park's a great little ground. But its shortcomings will become only too obvious the first time it tips down. Moreover, for how long can York seriously expect people to part with £15 to stand in a field? Lower division, semi-pro rugby league is ludicrously overpriced as it is - doubtless a reason so few watch it in the Super League is Everything era.

As to whether or not York RLFC are a laughing stock, well, I'm afraid to say, from an outsider's perspective, they very much are. Having fancied the idea of seeing more of York with the proposed move to Bootham Crescent (an eight-minute walk from home), I've followed, with growing incredulity, the events of the close season. Even by rugby league standards, it's a complete farce.

Can't say I was overly impressed with Coventry: game enough but painfully limited. A decent side would have put 80 points past them.

And, at £15 a pop, I won't be hurrying back to Clifton Park (assuming the RFL continues to bend its minimum standards requirements and allows York to keep playing there).

My opinion - We are a decent side that's getting better by the game & its also £15 to stand out in the elements at Sedgeley Park on Sunday

Yes, Swinton are a shambles, too. From Station Road, one of the great rugby league grounds, to sharing a field - via a lower division football club - with a tiny rugby union club. And where 500 is now seen as a decent attendance. Another fantastic achievement!

Here we again - same f***ing record - was really just pointing that I think our team is getting better & than some other clubs charge the same price for the same standard of ground - simple of that

Same f***ing record in the minds of all those people who used to watch lower division rugby league but can no longer see the point! At that level, when players start to outnumber spectators, the RFL and its clubs might start wondering where it all went wrong.

In the meantime, given the choice between picking a game I fancy in the National Conference League (and paying £2.50, including programme, to stand in a field) and watching semi-pro RL (and paying £15, plus £2.50 programme, to stand in a field), I'll go with the amateurs every weekend.

I agree completely with Hopping Mad and I'm not a "New Poster".

But supporting YCK isn't about money for me, if it was I wouldn't have bothered on Sunday. On the field, we're one of the best teams we've ever been (although we haven't been fully challenged yet - wish we were still in the Champ) but outside the touchlines, we're at a lower level than the Wasps ended up and sinking further each and every day.

There was never more spectators V Cov than V Thunder - nowhere near, but the official attendance was much higher... What does that tell you about why we're lower than the Wasps?

Hint: "Everything off the field is Bulls**t"

The 2004 & 2005 team would have put 60 on the current one, as would the side from early 2013 when we were sitting top 6 in the Championship after about 8 games. We're not a bad team by any means but we're only a top 4 league 1 side at the minute at best and a young one at that. Sunday's result will show how close we are to being a top side in this division, lose that and we've lost to 2 of the main contenders.

Now, if we get some training and playing facilities sorted we might just kick on for the rest of the season and show the undoubted potential.

...I meant *potentially* :/

I disagree with the early 2013 side - that's when we were chonging the DR pipe. Some of those players are still here and better now than they were.

Although I'd love to have Sam Scott still here!

But I fully agree with the training problem, can't be easy for the lads and is bound to slow their development down
