Ok club and league officials here’s a situation. The entire u/15 squad at club A decide they don’t want to play there anymore. Under their own initiative they approach club B who currently dont have an u/15 squad and say they’d like to play there.

The league say no, you have to play another season at A. The lads who are present at this meeting say no, they won’t play there, they don’t want to, they want to play at B. The league say 3 of them can sign for B but what’s the point? They respond.

Anyway out of this impasse?

If there signed on with the league, they can enforce club B not to sign them on, however they can’t make them play for team A. The sensible thing would be to let players move as there must be a reason why they don’t want to stay. As it’s late in season they would be unlikely to join the league anyway. If it’s a summer league they should be able to move before games get played

Some junior leagues have strange rules that say teams can only sign on 3 players a season, this is meant to prevent super team building hence the league will not allow it. They would prefer the kids not to play instead of working what has happened here and find the reason why the team want to move clubs. Has the coach gone to the other club?

It also stops what is now happening in the open-age amateur game were players are shifting not only between clubs but between seasons and causing chaos - If I'm correct this ruling came into force to protect teams,.

Look at it this way if the boot was on the other foot what would you think.

It prevents juniors from playing when there mates move they want to play with them, if they cannot they stop playing. Is that what people want?  These players are not pros, they should be allowed free movement.

If players want to move from my club good luck to them, they go with my blessing, why would you want players who do not want to play for you?

I take your point but these lads haven’t been poached, they just turned up at club B and said “we’re here we want to play for you”

There must be a reason behind this, someone has organised it

Talking to the lads they’ve done it themselves, that’s what they’ve told us, I can absolutely state that no one at club B approached them

All they’ve said is they “don’t like the way they’ve been treated”

Sounds like someone's tapped them up, poaching an entire team is bad form. My club has had it done to us before.

What's the players reasoning behind it? Have they been promised something in return? Free tracksuits (that sort of thing) if you come play for us, is the new clubs coach involved with a professional club?

I never stood in the way of a player or players wanting to leave and would wish them well on joining their new club. I would never want to see lads not playing the greatest game of all. However a full team leaving does leave a bad taste in the mouth and the league should look into what's going on at both club's.

Please look at what I said above, they have categorically not been “tapped up” they’ve not been promised anything, they literally turned up at club B saying they wanted to play there

I think it was at Smallthorne where it happened years ago and these laws were put into place to stop it happening, I'm not sure but I think it was an influential father of the star player who had a bee in his bonnet with the coaching staff, he decided and encouraged most of the team to go to another club or tried - The ruling may seem bad but it does stop the turmoil.

I remember smawthorne. Top side.

Everyone gets suspicious when a team moves en mass to another club. What are the reasons for these lads all leaving the club?

I find it hard to believe that they (all the team) turn up at a club with none of them knowing anybody at the new club, just saying hi, we are here to play for you.

It's hard enough attracting 1 player let alone a full team!

Really?  these are Yorkshire junior rules

I was talking about players who attended the service areas being redirected away from small clubs like my own towards a bigger club, we had it happen to us and we ended up losing two age groups who would now be 20/21 & 18/19year-olds, I actually had the then CEO of Doncaster RLFC phone me from a RFL meeting to tell me what was happening and to apologise.

These kids please note HAVE NOT been “poached” Club B didn’t even have anyone to coach them.

They haven’t been promised anything, they want to play but not at their previous club.

There’s 14-15 lads going to be lost to the game because bureaucrats can’t or won’t be flexible

I would guess there was a barny at Team A, bunch of influential players in the team said "right well if you wont do x or are doing y then we are off and we are going to B", had their bluff called, when the follower players saw where their leaders were off to they followed suite and so all turned up at club B out of the blue

Is Club B a longterm local rival of Club A (which would explain why used as a threat)

I bet it was something like precedence in the showers, after match meals or access to a physio which started it all off but as we all know teenagers can turn a minor slight into the worlds worst insult in their own heads

I think that stopping this sort of thing makes sense - however, there needs to be flexibility. People move, get jobs, have other activities etc

Is anyone from Club 'A' complaining about this or is the league just being sticklers for the rules?

From memory when I was younger if a player wanted to change clubs they previous club had to agree to a release. Usually no problem - but could help stop a case where a bunch of players were being poached in that they could refuse. The league was there to sort out disagreements

The coach quit, just walked away basically, the guy they brought in to replace him took them out, ran round the pitch a few times and played touch for an hour. That was their training. All these lads say they want “proper coaching”

They’re within walking distance of each other and yes club A has objected, but as I’ve said they were categorically not poached. Club B had o find a coaching team for them, there wasn’t one already in place.

Is the league going to entertain a hearing between the clubs to ensure that there was no poaching?
