So Hall is our injured for next week after dislocating his knee. Who’s Bennett going to put on the wing now? Jack Hughes? 🙄

He's probably faster and more mobile these days.

Hall should never have been picked in the first place, Hall was purely a pick on memories of what he did years ago. Oh I suppose he now plays in the NRL too, albeit only 6 games, so must be picked due to that too. This is the thing with Australia, they are very rarely sentimental in the way that England\GB are when it comes to picking teams.

Fully agree on the Hardaker thing , most centres of true quality would have seen Bromwich flying across at speed to get to McGilvray and just dropped their shoulder , stepped inside and slid over .But we have had something like 30 years of playing players out of position in international RL , we need to stick with players who are best in their positions and stop trying to fit square pegs into round holes .

Correct, GB /England have been playing players out of position for years, Farrell, Sculthorpe and Sinfield to name a few.

I wonder if Bennett is been restricted from flying over a replacement because the Tour has lost money and gone over budget

That would be very sad.

As unprovable as yours.

Verily.

Hardaker showed a lack of composure and perhaps made Bromwich's mind up for him.

Anyway, chance to do better on Saturday.

That's clutching at straws. It wasn't the best timed pass but Hardaker still waited until he had drawn the man before passing. He should have waited until he committed a little more but that would also risk an inaccurate pass if the timing was off. McGilvary was one or two yards in from the touchline so could have positioned himself wider (it's only the impact of the tackle that takes him into the corner flag but there's plenty of space to work with there) and literally all he had to do was keep hold of the ball.

The only mistakes made were possibly not hugging the touchline but definitely trying to ground the ball with 2 hands rather than keeping it in his right. Why an experienced winger like him is doing that I don't know as a 2 hand carry close to the line means all a defender has to do is knock the arm, which is what happened.

No straws being clutched at.

It was a poorly timed pass. Small things matter in tight games.

This is exactly right.  Here are three screen shots of that play.  The first if the moment that Hardaker recieves the ball.  The second is when he releases it to McGilvary and the third is when Bromwich catches McGilvary in the corner and dislodges the ball.

You can see from the first shot that Hardaker should of either released quick ball to McGilvary or straightened and engaged the last cover defender (Bromwhich).  In the end he drifted towards the corner post with the ball for several steps before releasing McGilvary.

It was absolutely the poor execution of a simple play from Hardaker that bombed that try.

He still passed the ball to McGilvary with enough time for him to get the ball down over the line comfortably - which McGilvary should have done easily but didn't because he dropped it. Big things matter in tight games too.

Bromwich did well to dislodge the ball and Jerry will no doubt be disappointed that he didn't keep control of it, but Hardaker's pass/timing made Bromwich's task easier.
