Never count out the Melbourne Storm that was a win without several key players and despite being off key for large parts of the game - certainly the first 25 mins

Ryan Papenhuyzen's tries which killed the game off in the last 15 mins of the first half are an example to all you youngsters wanting to play full back of how to do it. As described on commentary not walking but  jogging into position, creating space, then turning on the afterburners. Superb support play something only vintage St Helens have every done consistently in the northern hemisphere.

This NRL season will be determined by two factors:

  • Who stays injury free and can put close to their first choice XII on the field
  • Who playsw their best foty inSeptember / October not now.

My Tip - don't bet against any Craig Bellamy coached side.

Sharks v Cowboys Preview:

Sharks Unavailable: Bronson Xerri (Suspended), Shaun Johnson (Injured), Jack A Williams (Injured), Royce Hunt (Injured), Siosifa Talakai (Injured), Jesse Ramien (Suspended), Briton Nikora (Suspended), Sione Katoa (Injured)

Cowboys Unavailable: Kane Bradley (Injured), Tom Gilbert (Injured), Jason Taumalolo (Injured), Kyle Feldt (Suspended), Michael Morgan (Injured), Reuben Cotter (Injured), Mitchell Dunn (Injured)

Cronulla  have performed okay so far but their form has only yielded one win from three matches. They will be keen to improve on this in the game this weekend with North Queensland Cowboys. Let’s be frank, Cowboys have been poor. Payton has changed the line up looking for the best one without any luck so far. The Cowboys have generally looked clueless and the Sharks should be able to turn them over in this one shouldn’t they?

Titans v Raiders Preview

Titans Unavailable: Ash Taylor (Injured)

Raiders Unavailable: Curtis Scott (Injured), Joseph Tapine (Injured)

Seb Kris and Ryan James have both been passed to play the Titans after picking up concussions in the loss to the Warriors.

On paper and form, this could turn out to be a close run thing. For me, either team could win it. If Titans can win this it will give them confidence that they can make the top 8 at the end of the season, even though it’s early days. If they can beat a decent side like Raiders they will be setting a good course. Raiders are no mugs, even though they threw away a good lead last weekend to be overhauled by the Warriors, especially as one of the tries awarded to Warriors included a blatant forward pass.

Could go either way then as I said above, what do you think?

There was a moment in the Storm/Broncos game that encapsulated the effects of knock-on derangement syndrome.

Haas had the ball dislodged in an Olam tackle, no reason to think it was lost into the defender, clearly went backwards, yet all the players stopped. Storm especially were more interested in congratulating Olam than going after the ball.

It`s good that officials seem this year to be trying to get back to a play-on culture, but it could take the players time to catch on after years of expecting a whistle when the ball goes to ground.

And the commentary teams continue to be perplexed when the game continues because of course "there had to be a knock-on in there somewhere".

Aiden Tolman goes on to replace Rolando Mutilado. This should be interesting.

Sharks have 2 x Jack Williamses this year. Jack and Jack A. Williams.

Murphy's Law: I go to drain the lizard and Connor Tracey crosses for the Fish.

Tracey seems to be playing left wing with Jack Williams in the left centre. Could get messy if Mulitado and Dugan don't come back.

Townsend converts. Shirks 18 - 6
