In the men's team, I would probably only have two positions that I would argue with.

I think Mitchell Moses was the best halfback in the competition.

I think that Cameron Murray is fortunate to get a spot in the starting 13 on the edge when he has been predominately used as a bench player for the Kangaroos - and when on the pitch he has been in the middle a fair bit as well.

For the women.  I am surprised that Tara Jane Stanley is picked on the wing for the team of the tournament when she has been in the centre in every game.  I am not saying she doesn't deserve a spot but surely you have to pick the team of the tournament based on the positions they played.

What about the great Tommy Makinson?

Only a few weeks ago there were a couple of people on here shouting on about him being the best in the world (despite never having played in the best league, and only playing a handful of tests).

As expected, the experts disagree and Makinson is nowhere to be seen.

I literally can’t be bothered checking the stats but Makinson had a cracking tournament. Scored plenty of tries, kicked plenty of goals, and ate up metres in each game he played (I imagine the stats between the best players in each position are not too dissimilar.)

One of England’s best throughout the tournament despite playing a game less than some of his peers - a genuine world class player.

Makinson has been very good, he is top quality winger who would excel in any company.

I love To'o, one of my favourite players and IMO the best winger in the NRL but Makinson deserved the spot in the Team of the Tournament above him.

They matched up twice, Makinson gave him a bath in the first match and the second meeting was very close. To'o had his best performances in the lesser group games and the Tongan QF while Makinson was consistently quality and scored 5 in his own QF.
