August Magic Venues

Personally, I think 9s would be played in front of about 8 people.

Yup.

And that is being generous.

Not that I watch Yawnion - but I used to find 7s unwatchable tosh.

It is one thing to have a sport that does not fundamentally change with the length, i.e.. cricket or dart, but 9s is a completely different game and not a good one.

Magic weekend is a different beast, always has been always will be. It's not the product on the pitch anymore except for certain points or certain people, most need and want more around, we have discussed that here on numerous occasions. Like it or loath it that is the way of entertainment today.

Your mathematical numbers work but economically when put into practice they will not. As has been pointed out you will lose people immediately with small pokey stadiums and concentrating on the game only. Again like it or loath it that is the way it will be and as soon as that happens your numbers become a major problem. No one is paying the big ticket prices to go to Preston for a weekend to be crammed in so your balance and average is done for..

No other sport does a magic weekend, we haven't got bits of it right and it is probably going to be scrapped in its current format but that does not mean your way will work it may just mean the concept doesn't.. I love magic and think the whole weekend and 6 games of rugby is brilliant but also accept I might be in the minority (or at least not a big enough majority for it to work) but a small ground and raising prices definitely won't solve the problem.

I also accept you won't agree so won't keep banging this drum but please don't say "the numbers work" when they really don't as soon as you put it into practice and put in emotion and random decision making.

I accept you have a different view on magic but you actually say above, the numbers work then end with the numbers don't work..

Preston was an example of a target location,

I also didn't say scrap all the other stuff around magic and you have to sit and watch all the games crammed in... I said you could watch 3 games so the ticket prices should reflect this.

The point of increased ticket prices was to offer a prize money big enough that all clubs will try to win a seperate comp not to make the event viable..

I think when magic was a concept it wasn't dreamt up so that a few existing fans could rattle around an empty stadium and sit in several different seats every set of 6..

Maybe one way to appease current magic goers would be to go to a biggish stadium but limit ticket sales. I however don't see what the significance of a football stadium (large stadium) has to do with giving it a big event feel, surely its the atmosphere.

Ironically its the same people who moan about empty soulless stadiums are the ones complaining they want magic in a big empty stadium.

I agree we are on a different page but you can't pretend a smaller stadium with larger ticket prices wouldn't create a bigger income.

So you wouldn't watch a 9s comp doesn't mean that's the general consensus, also if magic is used to attract new fans it doesn't matter one bit  what current fans think

I wouldn't be interested, and I know for fact my friends and family feel the same, I bet the general consensus agree too.

So some people are saying magic isn't about the product on the pitch but the atmosphere of the day and that you can wander round, now you are saying its about the product on the pitch.

I think its fair to say that RL fans will moan about anything and find an excuse to be negative.

Another way to appease current Magic-goers would be to ......leave it as it is...a satisfying combination of action on the pitch, socialising inside and outside the stadium, and a holiday weekend in a welcoming environment.

Sure, more "fuss" could be made generating a higher profile, some games could have better outcomes, and the bloody drummers could be silenced. Easier to fix any shortcomings than to gamble on a complete re-hash.

Oh I don't know, Union 7s was quite watchable when Wigan and Bradford swept up all before them.

Whilst I agree in principle the concept is broken and needs fixing,

Leaderships biggest challenge is always the 'leave it as it is' mentality.

Also my suggestions are not radical and are infact tweaks can't believe how much of a nerve it has hit....

Its maybe a measure of what people think of MW as it is.
