Dewsbury Rams v Wakefield Trinity 04th August, KO: 15:00

Not that they will make any difference (or will they?), but I haven't come across these officials before (except Gerry Kershaw of course and I can’t see him influencing matters).

Legs, Dews, Legs.

Gerry Kershaw, now a timekeeper, used to be a ref back in the 70s and beyond... I remember him well... called him few names but my overriding memory is that he was a decent ref!!

This will be D Arnold's first game at Championship level having previously refereed at C1. I gather that he controlled last week's feisty game at Spotland (Oil Can Arena) very well.

Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change.

Like a few of the recent new refs I believe he has predominantly operated as a touch judge. Ala M Lynn,W Turley, R Cox and C Worsley. Not blessed with officiating numbers so it is what it is.

Most will. You ref at a conference whilst TJing at higher levels, same way all the way down to the kids. However, there are some who choose to solely TJ (but even they do have to ref some games first)

Nearly got me nicked at Elland Rd for disputing one of his many dubious calls against Dewsbury, disliked him ferociously as a Ref, but I've mellowed with age and see him now regularly at home games

No predictions so far, I see. Clearly fans are uncertain of the outcome.

Given that we will have no DR players present and are giving opportunities to fringe players this game will be challenging, to say the least. Predicting a score is pot luck.

Tough one to predict this

If we turn up, we probably won't score a point

If we don't turn up, only change to the score is how many Wakefield will lump on us.

I'd like to think our narrow field will restrict their speedsters

So I'm going to say we won't score a point.

Wakefield will score many points

Warmsley will get at least 1 try

Wakefield fans will out number us 10 to 1

MOTM Mr Butterworth

Score Dewsbury 0 Wakefield 56

If I was giving contracts out

I'd simply ask Reiss Butterworth what it would cost to keep him at thd club next season.. Give him it

And build a team around him for the future

I will not be attending as I'm at Punk Rebellion in Blackpool

But I'll be glued to my phone for updates🤔

Paul March understandably giving game time to Rams players.

It will be another tough game for the players. Not having experience of Garside and Sykes won't help. But they kept Toulouse scoreless for last 26 minutes in searing heat, so hope they give a good account of themselves.

I am feeling quite sanguine, but not carried away enough to think we might win, oh no! I just hope we learn how to tackle because we will have lots of practice.

FTS: Summers

MoM: Turner

Att: 2445

Well done to the players again for a solid effort against a full-time team. Can't fault the effort and a fair bit of skill, played some good rugby despite the sin bin and losing Walker early on. Thought Butterworth and Turner were outstanding.

Zeus Silk plays above his weight and Jack Briggs looks like he's a really good player already.

Good to see so many Trinity fans in the ground.

Good effort from the Rams.  But too many silly errors as usual. I wonder what Wakey .fans think how their side is playing .I didn't think they were brilliant. Come on Mark give us the attendance for once .I think about 3000,thanks to Wakey. of course.Batley ,gave it against WT. as 2400 wakeyfans and 32 BAT.I'll wait for abuse from the other side. One thing if you use the car parks ,why don't you get a ticket any more? Same at Batley.

Was expecting Trinity to really pull away last 20 minutes due to full-time fitness, but like last week at Toulouse, the players battled to the end.

Great effort. Got stuck in.

It was always going to be that result but the performance could have also been poor.

Based on the team we played I don’t think we could have expected more. If we can try and stop panicking when we have half an opportunity I think we could really run teams closer. Obvious I know but somehow we need avoid the panic actions.

Posting this before seeing any other posts anywhere. Thought lads had a right good dig. Same old season long deficiencies such as soft defence near our own line. Not seen any of Daryl Powell’s post game comments but expecting it to be along the lines of we played our third team etc etc. If not then I will apologise in advance. And finally as I predicted they brought nowhere near to 3000 - 4000 fans.

I agree 100% would the previous speaker.

Some good rugby from us and we stuck with it to the end, but some rash decisions close to the Wakefield line meant we missed a couple of scoring chances. I had heard that Zeus Silk was full of confidence and he certainly showed that with his try. It was good to see that Brad Graham has lost none of his skill in catching the high ball for his break (not seen any kicks for him this season like last year though). I think Reiss was on form and kept the Wakefield defence watchful in case he made a breakthrough.

I know the Trinity supporters think their players can do no wrong, but it’s awful when they can work the ball free from an opponent, hold down and send out forward passes, but believe our lads were the worst culprits out at most tackles. The screeching woman behind me was almost apoplectic that the referee had awarded Dewsbury a try at the end of the match. “He’s given it” she shouted. She was adamant that she knew the “rules” of the game and didn’t like it when told they were laws.

If Wakefield’s supporters think they will do well in SL next year (they already assume that will be the case) I think they will be surprised. They might have a number of worthy youngsters coming through, but it could be a rude awakening if they get to SL. The teams in the top flight look so much sharper than the likes of Wakefield, but they still looked like racehorses at times against our sometimes ponderous players.

I came away having enjoyed the way we do try and think we look to be getting better each week, even though time is draining fast. Keep going at it, but resist the idea that we must score on every move and cut out those rash, wrong decisions.

I think the penalty count went against us 6-4 and the referee officiated very well, unlike the screecher behind who considered “he lost it” in the first half.

Watched full game last night. Joke of a try awarded to O.Pratt. He himself could not believe it when it was given. Even if we knocked on first Pratt knocked on when picking the ball up off the floor. Scrum to WT should have been awarded.
