So this year the P&R between the championship and L1 is such that the championship decreases by one club and L1 increases by one club for the 2025 season.

With the addition of Goole Vikings to L1 next year, there will be 12 sides in that league, and 13 in the championship.

What happens at the end of next season ? If this season's formula is repeated, it would mean 12 championship sides and 13 L1 sides for 2026 which seems crazy.

I wonder if the RFL have told the other applicants to be ready for next year if a team drops out again.

Next year there is a "Super 8s" system for P&R between the 2 leagues - top 4 of L1 and bottom 4 of Championship in a mini-league. Top 3 in the 8s into the Championship for 2026, bottom 5 into L1.

There's going to be some banged-up Championship sides going into an eight team min-comp after a 24 match regular season next year.....

Where does the random coin toss for who gets a home ground come into this, or was that just for the one season Town were in it 😅

At the same time, there'll be limitations on how many minutes players can play.

Utter madness.

Yes another one season wonder. what the game needs is stability instead of constant tinkering with formats.

Please tell me this is a wind-up!!!

Apparently the RFL cannot yet confirm that any clubs are being relegated from the Championship due to question marks hanging over the participation of up to six clubs from the two lower divisions.

It really is tough down here!

Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change.

That doesn't sound particularly encouraging, where have you seen that? I presume 2 of sides who have question marks are Cornwall (soon to be Bedford) and Newcastle. Then maybe Whitehaven and Fax due to the financial issues, however both clubs have come out with statements outlining ways forward. Who are the other clubs?

I'd imagine there is a huge question mark over the future of London following the loss of their benefactor.

What a mess

Time to have a 14 team SL with one combined league below

Nope, it was announced at the start of this season in the same press release as the P&R system for this year.

Though I did hear a funny story about it - the announcement didn't detail the make up the Super 8 and the RFL sent a memo to clubs saying it'd be 3 from Championship and 5 from L1. It took one of the clubs to point out to them that if there were only 3 in it from the Championship and 3 were going up then they'd end up with exactly the same number of clubs in the Championship🤦‍♂️😄. It was explained to them that only way it works is for there to be 1 more Championship club in it than promotion places available so you lose a club from the Championship.

Maybe a question mark over Toulouse if they dont get into SL.

The leagues need to combine and get a salary cap in place ASAP. Rank the clubs from IMG rankings and create a fixture list that prevents the lower ranked teams from playing too many of the higher ranked clubs more than once.

Maybe we could get a sponsor like Ford to ..?..oh wait.

Yeah. Oh wait. It didn't work, did it?

It worked fine IMO. 5 different winners over 5 years?

They went to 2 divisions in 2003 and as much as we've had 21 years as 2 divisions, we've not exactly made progress. Well we have, backwards.

There are loads of better ways to decide that, eg you could have the two captains seeing who could do a Rubik’s Cube the fastest.

Our (Dewsbury) chairman made a speech to the fans after the final home match where he said that he wants too have a fans forum as soon as possible but, until the RFL can confirm the format and teams for 2025, he would find it futile. He stated, quite clearly, that the RFL have told him that our relegation is not yet confirmed, although he fervently hopes that no clubs go to the wall - the game cannot afford that.

And the fact that they are wanting to force another team from the Championship down there this season just makes it utter madness.
