Topics I've Started

27 August 2015 - 06:43 PM

Whilst the shootings in America are undeniably tragic, it's perhaps notable that two killings of media people in a foreign country renowned for its gun crime get huge coverage whereas the shooting of some travellers and a policeman, in nearby France get almost no coverage at all.

If America can take no action after children are shot in cold blood, why would the latest victims give them cause to change their minds?

Player welfare in soccerball

12 August 2015 - 11:20 AM

OK, let's start by ignoring the fact that footballers are all soft compared to rugby players. If we can move on from that, does anyone else find this story to be quite disturbing in terms of player welfare? I would "hazard" a guess that the player was overdoing the injury, in which case shouldn't his coach be having a word with him, not disciplining a doctor? Shouldn't doctors be free to do what they feel they need to do for player welfare?

I'm just glad this clown isn't coaching a rugby team.

Test Match Special and RL

07 August 2015 - 11:52 AM

Geoffrey Boycott has just spent a few minutes bigging up RL on Test Match Special - a bit weird him being a Wigan fan but he obviously knows his stuff.

He laid into Ben Flower for his antics in the Grand Final ("I'd have sacked him on the spot! What an idiot!") and mentioned Billy Boston and Rocky Turner as his heroes.

Leaving money to who you want when you die?

28 July 2015 - 11:09 AM

I know this is a tough one, so what's the TRL opinion on this?

Should you be allowed to leave your money and property however you want when you die, or should there be safeguards fro direct relatives to prevent unscrupulous individuals preying on the elderly? I know this example below isn't that case but I did see something recently where that happened.

While we're about it, why not debate Inheritance Tax as well?

Eagles to go full-time in 2016

21 July 2015 - 01:14 PM

Not surprising I suppose - just needed the confirmation of the top 4 finish. Of course, this doesn't guarantee anything (a London found out) but it's a big step for the club and if/when the new stadium arrives it sets them up nicely as contenders to be an SL club.

Plenty of competition though, and who knows what the RFL will decide next time they need to restructure the game.
