  1. Don't worry, it's just an "alternative fact".
  2. Our "4 star" hotel was interesting to say the least! Room was OK and better than staying at the airport. The airport is indeed very new and they're spending a lot of money on infrastructure. The traffic at peak times is absolutely mental - cars, buses, scooters, carts and a bloke on a tiny sit-on thing observing absolutely zero lane discipline. My Chinese colleague, who lives and works here, refuses to drive in China when he goes back. On the plus side, my wife and I had a wander round the area round the hotel at night and despite sticking out like a sore thumb as Europeans and probably tourists we didn't feel under threat at all - unlike I would in a random area of some major European cities, and certainly most US ones.
  3. My French colleague loves it and we often use "god moaning" to each other, or "I was just p*ssing by"
  4. I had a long-ish layover in Guangzhou on the way out to NZ and on the way back. I got a bit of facebook access at first but then it stopped working. Flying with China Southern meant we had a free hotel room as our layovers were greater than 8 hours. How shall i put this tactfully... Guangzhou is like the worst parts of industrialised Britain magnified to a city of 5 million people. It's not really a tourist hotspot!
  5. Listen very carefully, you should say it only once...
  6. Will there be any repercussions to the government's apparent cover-up of the Trident test failure or are we too obsessed with Brexit and The Donald's latest 2am tweet?
  7. Very sad. I read plenty of comments (and a particularly vitriolic piece from Toby Young) that Ken Loach's "I Daniel Blake" was unrealistic left-wing claptrap. Looks like it might not have been.
  8. They're barely a full team at the moment. Going full-time was a shocker of a decision; perhaps in hindsight but terrible nonetheless.
  9. Joking aside Sheffield simply have to stay up this season. That potentially sets them up to be in the new ground and in a more stable situation for the future. As for going to Leigh games, it's difficult enough to get people to go to home games let alone the tourist mecca that is Leigh. Any ideas which players are likely to be surplus to general requirements?
  10. As a Sheffield fan and someone who hates DR as a concept this is sad but somehow inevitable in the changed circumstances. It's basically devaluing the Championship to the point where we may as well pull the drawbridge up again now that the biggest whingers (aka our new overlords) have got their way.
  11. Yes, a "who's got the biggest willie" competition between China and the USA will be bad news.
  12. They never said those things. Ever. #PostTruth #HistoryRewrite
  13. I think it can take a while to kick in - many things purchased at cheaper cost are working their way through the system but soon the new higher prices will have to be passed on.
  14. I knew de Niro had stopped caring, I just couldn't remember when! Thanks! I think he's now trying to see just how bad a film he can get away with making before he dies.
  15. The hatred of socialised health care amongst well-off Americans is surprising but undeniable - not just dislike. They don't see why they should pay for anyone else's lack of ability to pay. It's a view shared by the Farage/Nuttall wing of the UKIPs but seems to bypass the awareness of some of their voters.
