Marquee returning players

Recommended Posts

A marquee player's salary counts as £150,000 on the cap.

The salary of a "returning player" counts as 50% of it's actual value on the cap for the first year.

If the returning player is also a marquee player is that 50% of £150.000, 50% of the actual value or £150,000 (assuming the actual value is £300,000+) ?

Anybody know how it works?

I would assume you cant apply both to one player.

Nowhere does it suggest you will get a discount on the adjusted value.

The rules state you can have two marquees and a total of two 'new/returning talent' players: https://www.rugby-league.com/flipbooks/2019-operational-rules-tiers-1-3/mobile/index.html#p=291

There is no provision for double dipping for a 'returning marquee'.

If this is about SBW, then he would be a marquee unless TWP wants to spend around half its cap on one player (which it won't have space for).

If there is no provision for using both on one player, why wouldn't you assume you could?

I suspect it is covered by the blunt statement that "A Marquee Player...shall be given a notional Salary Cap Value of £150k".

Any Returning Player Adjustment would be made to the true Salary Cap Value. There is no provision for a 50% reduction on a notional Salary Cap Value.
