Buying tickets for the RLWC

IYO, by doing something ' radical ' you get their attention , once that's done you won't need marketing teams trying to decide what they're going to do ( including discounts ) to fill those empty seats , they can just get on with marketing the game

Fair enough, I don't agree, but it's all good discussion.

Where I could see it working is by sticking to early birds. If we sold tickets for 2023's final up to 31st December at a flat rate of £30 (for example), then maybe we'd get a real uptick in neutral sales and bank a lot of sales before moving back to standard tiered pricing. If you've sold plenty up front it removes the need for discounting later on.

I do also think there is maybe something in simpler pricing. Maybe flat pricing by side/end/tier.

But I think one of the major issues is the sales journey, we need to stop peeing people off and making it hard for them. It should be easy and you should come away 100% satisfied after buying.

People should feel good when they have been shopping.

Says you , but that's just your opinion

No, says every sporting event, theatrical, concert and show since Shakespeare's globe was constructed in the 16th Century that doesn't charge a flat rate between the royal box and the seats in the gods...

I can think of a game actually that did do what you suggest actually last year. LUFC sold out a Tuesday night game against Crewe in the League cup. The seats me and my family were sat in would normally be worth £47.00 each for a normal matchday, so roughly £150.00 altogether. We actually paid £45.00 for all of our tickets, slashing prices to a third of their actual value (and we were the equivalent of category B).

This is the sort of ticket price cutting you are advocating for in every game of the RLWC. As this is the sort of slashing of prices you have to go to.

I think your last line is right. The only real way of flat pricing working is as part of a huge sale, value pricing model, and we want to move away from offers.

They are if your claim is that by repricing the 30k empty seats you will sell them out.

Because, quite frankly, you won't.

Dave, no-one is claiming this is a method to sell out all the available seating. It's a lever and a very attractive lever to get people to buy early. If early on, the seats are selling like hot cakes then we can broadcast that information providing a further lever for people to get on the bandwagon, because it's filling up quick. All those are positives from a business, cash flow and ''perceived-value'' perspective. The people who wait ''might'' miss out, or have to pay more than they used to (under the old system) for the poorer seats - You could argue, it serves them right.

As it is now we are all cringing because the purchases are so late that we fear empty terraces on our premium televised games.

I put ' projected attendance ' , do you understand what that means , maybe the WC organisers are projecting to sell out every game ? , Maybe they are projecting to sell out 60% of every game , or some games sell out and others don't , but they will have a number in mind , get less they lose money , get more they make money , you understand this Tommy ?

It doesn't look like he does Gubby? lol.

This is why I supposed at £20, because that is really the highest you could go to at most grounds. But it doesn't really suggest a good deal.

Thinking more about this, didn't they do a cut price offer if you purchased before a year out or something? Edit: just checked my emails and yes, there was a discount in 2020, and an end of year sale on top of that between Boxing Day and NYE.

If only half the seats are cheaper or in line with what they should be, then the other half are over priced... 😬

Don't you know any other fractions Tommy? Or did you only get as far as ''half'' when you were in school?

we need to let the marketing people know we are not premiership football and need to also get some turnstiles and free roaming standing sorted out - i know they cant bombard me with adverts for disney dancing on ice at Christmas if i pay on the door but i dont care - lets get out traditional values and fans back

I said that hours ago, but I didn't notice your acknowledgement.

Traditionally Irish I was taught that estimations were the advantageous way of discussing a topic in general terms. Given that the figures being dealt with in the specific example of a random group game I picked (Ireland vs Jamaica) were £66 highest, £35 category B, and £20 everywhere else I would think that halving would be good for a poster who likes to use "simples" or "simple as" as justification for points made.

Incidentally I didn't choose the other fixtures at Headingley which have the above pricepoints at £84, £55 and £25 respectively as I didn't want to make his point too embarrassing to justify with 60% and 35% decreases (mental maths calculation) to account for further. Also I think for smaller grounds like Doncaster potentially having a much broader swathe of pricing, i.e. just sides and ends, could have some merit. Though it would signify that the RLWC team didn't think they could sell out those grounds, which would be immensely disappointing (if not unexpected).

I think they recommend a cold handkerchief on the forehead for heat stroke.

This must be unique to rugby league given that every other sport seems to be coping just fine with the modern world.

simply saying we still need and to cater for plenty of walk ups as an option  to fill the ground

You can do that at every ground I believe through a mixture of the ticket office at the venue, online purchases and some turnstyles.

Well my nan's been dead for 20 years so I'm not surprised the Russian intel is that far behind reality!

Ticket offices won't be open at grounds where there are still seats available?

I'm told that the safest way to pay for anything is through your banking app or contactless via your phone.

It's called ''ageism'' Johnny and this site is riddled with it.

It won't be long before the fools usher in a cashless society and then who knows, euthanasia to follow.

I can remember a much kinder time, when people were more respectful of peoples heartfelt opinions and Dixon of Dock Green didn't need a tazer, CS spray, a 3 foot long baton and a stab-proof vest.

I'll meet you for a pint, if we get to the same games.

No, its called anti-ignorance. Every single stadium will have a ticket office, turnstile, or online purchase (I suspect with volunteer aid at the venue if necessary) available for games likely to have walkup available tickets.

Bit of a jump from cashless society to euthanasia though pal. Good job its cooling down outside!
