Buying tickets for the RLWC

None that I remember - but they did have low(er) prices from the start and there were a few misfires in terms of venues/cities that massively underperformed.

Yes, that's fair. I think the two venues that will stick out this time are Cov and Boro, too big and too isolated given the games they'll be hosting. But if they're the only flops and we can get up to 50% in the small heartland grounds, the end result won't be too bad, given the backdrop.

Did Sally Bolton's organising committee pull any stunts in 2013, I dont remember any off hand? Im holding out hope the RLWC team have enough separation from the usual RFL arrangements to do things properly. We'll see.

The low/medium/high notifications don't seem completely out of whack to me, anecdotally on here lots of people have bought tickets for the big games, but at the same time it's not surprising that places like Doncaster are struggling at this stage.

But if we sell out 6 (hopefully!) England games, and two thirds of the remaining Qtrs and semi, that's already 300,000 tickets sold, and I think that's a reasonable place to be.

There were certainly tickets unavailable for purchase at that World Cup which weren't released or sold which meant people waited as they couldn't get the tickets they wanted.

Also 50% voucher codes floating around like confetti all the way through the tournament.

RL fans in “moaning about ticket prices” shocker.  Tell you what would make most RL fans happy, make every ticket £5 and then go back to being a part time sport.  What a poor demographic of fans we have in every sense of the word.  Pathetic.

It would help if you'd read the thread, really.

I get where you are coming from. However, on this occasion it is more like making all the single and double rooms unavailable in a hotel (even though they are unbooked) and trying to force you to buy a suite.

The didn’t even sell the final out last time iirc, if the public were interested the big tv companies would be too. Not a big sample but one of my mates who lives in Sydney reckons hardly anyone there even knows there’s a World Cup this year.

Assuming you mean 2013. Pretty sure they did sell out the final, or got very close - I was there and it was rammed

Looking at Wiki - the attendance is given as 74,468 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_Rugby_League_World_Cup_Final

The same source gives the current capacity of 74140 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Trafford#:~:text=With a capacity of 74%2C140,and the adjacent tram stop.

It definitely was sold out.

I'm still optimistic, although after yesterday's RFL ticket shenanigans we must hope the highly professional approach Dutton's team have showed to most things extends to comms about ticket availability.

Until we know otherswise, I'm inclined to trust them. So, IF what the RLWC site says is true there is only low availability at all three England games, the Wigan qtr, both semis and the final. Additionally, availability is low at most of the Headingley games, and at at least one of the games at Hudds and Hull.

We seem to a have done a decent job selling tickets for most of the bigger stadiums (Cov and Boro excepted, but is that such a surprise? ). So hopefully selling out, or close to, the big stadiums will somewhat make up for lower crowds in the smaller ones.

With a fair wind, if the info is honest, I still think we could hit half a million tickets across all the tournaments by the time it all shakes out.

Don't believe them.

I've tried to stay positive for a while. There is not low availibility for games like the semis. These tickets are sitting unsold with agencies and will come on the market at some stage or will be left empty.

Sold does not mean sold with the RFL.

Dutton has been an RFL employee for years and has overseen many poor events.

The tickets for 2013 were often less than a tenner.

Maybe had the thread title been "Dizzy Dutton Out" it would have resonated more with you.

No I meant Australia didn’t in 2017, I was talking about Australians not being interested.

Dutton was the person behind the disappointing 2016 4 Nations IIRC

Yes, he was. Such inspirational events as Aus v Scotland in Hull with c6k there.

Tbf the voucher codes in 2013 actually had a galvanising effect. We had a group of 10-15 of us who were actively encouraging each other to be seeking them out and in the end we ended doing probably 4/5 games more than we planned (buying at least two games at a time) because it was such a good deal. Ended up doing about 12 games overall, and gutted I missed out on a couple of others purely because there’s only so much time you can get off work!

With the current pricing, I was planning on buying the bottom end tickets for each game just to make sure I could attend as many games as possible, but that’s looking at serious risk now. It’s reached the point where the EFL fixtures coming out this week might end up being the final nail in a few of the Saturday games for me, particularly my plan to do both of the Newcastle games on opening weekend.

There's a happy medium. 2013 was too cheap but we've gone from extreme to the other. Almost 5 times more for the same ticket isn't a sensible price rise.

"The tournament will be a fantastic festival of rugby, enjoyed by a million spectators, and bringing economic benefits to host towns and cities."

World's a very different place since 2016, so I won't be holding them to that target any more. If we can fill the 7 or 8 biggest games and generate a good atmosphere in the stadiums then it's job done for me. I don't really care how they do it at this point, but the CCF at Spurs reminded me that we can still generate a great atmosphere for big games in the right stadiums, so I hope we can pull that off a few times during the WC.

They had already knocked that target down to 700k before the pandemic struck.
