Nene McDonald to Leeds

As being someone who actually watched him perform in nearly all the games Nene played for Leigh this past season, let me please give my personal assessment about him, he came to the club - a second division RL Championship club - from the NRL as a seasoned 27 year old player who presumably could not get a contract back home, his early season form was nothing short of spectacular with ball in hand, not so much defensively, but being fair playing in that team in the Championship should not have been to hard - with the exception of playing against Fev, as the season progressed that early season form dipped and carried on going down performing in a Leigh shirt up untill his WC performances which I am sure had his name not been recognisable people would not have known who he was.

I am not surprised that if he is leaving Leigh, that of all the non-fed trained he is the one that the club will let go, and if they can get a transfer fee for him after his commiting and signing for the club then even better still - was signing him knowing he was in demand by our games richest club a planned move? if not he will still not cost Leigh a penny in signing him.

I wish the lad all the best but I still see him as a winger, can Rohan Smith get better out of him than Adrian Lam - who I should imagine is revered by every PNG player I just don't know, one thing is for certain though he will not find life at the Rhino's any easier than he had at Leigh last season.

Rohan smith was his previous coach so i would suspect he knows exactly what nene is like

Then one must ask the question why is he still not plying his trade there instead of coming to a RL Championship club?

You could say that about all your imports from last year.

I always wondered why Asiata was there. Surely he could have signed with one of the lower-ranked NRL clubs. He was a Blacktown boy so surely he had no qualms about moving to Sydney.

As I said I am talking from the expierence of actually watching him over the course of the season Chris, in a few months time you can either shove that down my throat or agree with me and yes everyone ibe knows that Smith was a former assistant coach at one if Nene's previous clubs, no need to state the obvious as though it is an exclusive you have come up with.

See you are being totally oblivious to what I said if you read it with my other post, of all the other non feds on Leigh's books, Nene is the one - in my opinion and seemingly the clubs - that is the least important to Leigh this coming season, I hope the lad does well but I would not be surprised if he is playing on the wing as opposed to centre, you may come to realise that he is a little like Konrad being a turnstile in defence, but you probably already know differently having watched him so much.

Rohan Smith was his head coach.

Why are you being so chippy?

Asiata came to England as it was the only option available to him at the time as he refused a Covid jab in Australia.

Nene Macdonald was sensational at the start of last season, form tapered off around the time of signing his extension in May. We had been in for him the previous year in our Ill fated return to SL with Tim Lafai who was playing reserve grade aswell, neither would commit so interest moved on to Whare who ended up with Catalans. We ended up with Gelling.

In defence of Macdonalds poor form in the World Cup he’d played left edge all year and was picked on the right for PNG.

Who cares? Why should this guy have a thread and all the other off season signings not?

You , or you wouldn't have commented ?

Fair assessment is that. Suppose the Leeds deal may have been completed mid season coinciding with his form dropping off. Saving himself basically. It remains to be seen how he will fair in SL. I would go 50-50 at this stage.

Leeds won't be paying a transfer fee. Hetherington vs Beaumont isn't exactly a fair match up when it comes to negotiating though is it.

I'd hope that with Rohan Smith as coach McDonald will be able to perform at a more consistently high level than he was able to at Leigh.

Agree completely , the novice coach at Leigh would struggle to deal with quality players

2 former double glazing salesmen trying to do a deal ? 😂
