North Wales Crusaders next three homes games at Chester RUFC

Recommended Posts

Club statement just released, at least we have some stability for a few weeks.

We played a couple of games at Chester in 2016, after being forced to leave the Racecourse. A decent venue with a nice clubhouse and an old fashioned wooden stand.

This will be our fourth venue for home games this season, does anyone know if this is some kind of record?

What's going on here? I thought they were settled in (and welcome) at Colwyn Bay. What's happened?

Sadly, no. I suspect there's a few clubs who will have done something similar. The record is probably Sheffield Eagles in their promotion season - played at the grounds of Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, Wakefield Trinity, Barnsley FC, Chesterfield FC, Doncaster RLFC and possibly some more (a regal trophy game at Halifax?)

I'm behind the eight ball here. Can someone give me a quick run down of what's happened?

Is the Colwyn Bay ground a RaRa club ground?

Have they (Crusaders) been dislodged due to a new pitch being laid?

Or have they been bumped for a (series of) Union game(s) to take place?

I thought they were secure there and welcome, has something undermined their position, or was it always precarious?

Some inside information would be very much appreciated.

Eirias Park stadium is home to Rygbi Gogledd Cymru (RGC) the North Wales rugby union development side, and the WRU has invested heavily in the stadium which is why the facility is so good.

All we really know is that the pitch is being relayed to 4g standard and there is a delay in getting it signed off. The stadium is owned and managed by Conwy County Borough Council and all we can do is accept what the council are telling us. The following appeared in the Wrexham Leader last week:

A Conwy County Borough Council spokesperson said: "We are extremely sorry for the delay with the new pitch at Stadiwm CSM which will impact on some of the forthcoming North Wales Crusaders home games.

"We are working with the Crusaders to find an alternative location for each of the games and apologise to the team and the fans for the inconvenience caused.

"The new pitch will provide much needed benefits to our partners and communities, allowing more frequent use of the facility and a greater number of events on site.

"We’re looking forward to extending our programme of activity and working with the North Wales Crusaders and RGC to help develop their important work and their growth in North Wales.

"We are grateful to the WRU for their financial support for this project."
