Widnes Away

If Widnes are reportedly offering double the money for Riley then he should bite their hand off, when we've seen him he's been half the player of brown , gledhill and manning to name a few.

So no gledhill who’s been class this season and stood out yesterday strange

I'd include Gledhill all the time and also Lillycrop when he was fit.

I would think there is a bit more to it other than just money. With a young family, would you want to travel to Widnes 3 or 4 times per week? As I understand it, he is a local lad and the journey would be a nightmare during the week after a day at work.

I realise it is all down to personal preference, but I really like him and he'd be a huge loss if he goes. He is more of a footballer than most of the rest of the pack, he has a good offload game, and his work rate is huge, both attacking and defending.

The bit I find a little hard to understand is, why and how we apparently don't have money to strengthen the squad given the recent on field successes? I understand Kevin has announced the club hasn't made anything out of the GF last year or 1895 Final this year, my question is why? The prize money in rugby league seems to be a more closely guarded secret than the recipe for Coca Cola, but surely we must have made something from the ticket sales, we took very strong numbers to both games, as well as the shared gates in the run to the GF. If nothing else, surely the club must have seen an increase in sponsorship revenue?

I would guess that anything you might have made, and it won't be much, will have been offset by players bonuses. There was no prize money for either the playoffs or the 1895 cup, I understand, and the payments for getting through individual rounds of the CC are pitiful. No doubt this is why they are never publicised by the RFL.

Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change.

The only rumours about players leaving for other clubs as far as I'm aware are Hodson and Reilly. We also kmow tgatJonny Keefan gave retired and Rog, Lillycrop hasn't been seen, other than maybe Wembley, for a long, long time. So that's 5 down already, we can't rely on Giants releasing McGowan although he'll probably be still around 4th choice so it could be 6, plus a couple more varying names going around on here. I hope that the refusal to allow loanees was to save money to spend on new players as previously mentioned in another post. Mokko MUST be backed to the hilt.

Just to be pedantic, did JC say he was retiring? I thought he had said he was finishing with us but I assume he might stay with Hunslet.

I don't know why he's allegedly leaving? Has something happened?

Not too fussed if Riley goes, he's not set our season alight. In 1 game I think it was against bulls he actually stopped with ball in hand before he was tackled. If only he could run like wardy, and cropper then I might think better of him. That's my honest opinion.
