I don’t think fans will want to watch full strength 9s teams mid season, let alone under strength ones for three weekends. It’s just not a concept the Aussie league fans are keen on.

Not that there is any hope in the NRL closing down for three weekends in the middle of the season anyway.

That’s because it’s not been done right before and not aimed at the right audience. It should be focused on the festival style atmosphere, taking place during school holidays with a focus on kids - the Hundred is a blueprint for that in this country. It’s a different target audience

Yeah exactly its not for nauses, its for casual event goers.

Just play an "in season comp" with normal rules and let youngsters have a crack, may show who the next generation are and some will surprise you.. young players need injuries suspensions to be given their shot an awful lot of the time lets just build 3 games in where they can do that.

3 parts to the "solution" posted, the least important points was nines, only followed by posts criticising nines.

Nines is fun to watch and I'd be happy to see a trial of it in this scenario, but it could equally be replaced by "weakened" ongoing games, or a full break in the schedule. Main thing is to keep Origin and build permanent international windows.
