We have won NOTHING yet!

So jubilant scenes at Iffley Road and we lift the league leaders shield. Great but it is blatant premature celebrating!!

It really does not mean a single thing. For me it is a complete waste of time and energy as it means ZERO AND NOTHING if we don't win the game that really matters next Sunday!!!

What is the point of celebrating prematurely when there could be a hell of a lot of rugby to be played and potentially anything up to three games?? Mental!!!

We have won something...a league leaders shield!!

We need to get across the mental hurdles to achieve a bigger success..

We're the best team in the league and have the hub cap to prove it,unbeaten in 12 games and unbeaten at home in the league in 2 years...we're on the front foot now,no wondering or selfdoubt...with each victory and footstep to the top of the mountain we are burying the past disappointments...

Think positive lad...cos the boys on the field sure as hell are...

OLDHAM RLFC

the 8TH most successful team in british RL

Well I thought it was a great scene deserved by a team and coaching staff who have put so much in this season.

The feeling of achievement will carry forward to next week with a knowledge we can win things.

Did you seriously go to Iffley Road expecting none of that to happen?

What happens in the play-offs happens but it's hats off to Scott and the lads.

A big thanks to Oxford to letting us share in their end of season presentations.

Yesterday was such an odd occasion.  I was mildly worried that the team changes may disrupt the game plan and we'd find ourselves scrambling against the clock to win.  That theory was put to bed after 5 minutes and what followed was a most surreal RL experience.  The game itself became a side-show, we were going to win, job done.  The atmosphere was like the middle bit of a wedding, in between the church stuff and the formal speeches.  Everyone is happy and smiling, and you fill your face with canapés and prosecco waiting for part two of the day to start.  So our part two turns up at Whitebank next week in the form of Keighley.

Looking at and listening to the players and coaching staff yesterday, it's my opinion that they are all fully aware the show's not over yet.   I'm completely confident that in seven days time we'll see the side hungry for the win, totally focussed and ready to serve up the result that we all want.  I'll personally spend the next week fretting to the point where I'll convince myself we've got no chance.  It makes it all the better when I'm proved wrong.

Try telling that to the lads, you may have to pick yourself up off the floor. I know the biggest test is yet to come but whatever happens we finished top of the league and the team and the fans deserve to celebrate. The game was a strange one I agree. I got into the ground at quarter to three and by the time I had got served at the burger van we were ten points up and I was giving the guy in the van plenty of grief.

That said I had a lovely weekend in a beautiful city I had never visited before and was very impressed by the welcome we got from the Oxford fans, .

Oxford however were very poor and at one point one of out tries was scored as a result of at least two players close to the play were completely unmarked and just strolled in under the posts.

May not be able to get to Whitebank next week but I feel confident that we will prevail.

I thought it was a great way to end the league campaign. Good solid performance and got the presentation and celebrations out of the way and we have a clear week now to tackle the big game next week. I think it's a shame the champions don't get the recognition they deserve after a long season.

Someone's still got my hub-cap from when I parked on Limeside on my recent visit to Whitebank....LOL

We have won the title of being the best team in the division over the duration of the season. In any other sport we would be promoted automatically. But no the wierdos up at red hall think it's great to drag things out.Why do they seem to change the running of things on almost a seasonly basis?.

As said previously said everybody has not played each other home and away so you cant be promoted by being top at the end of the season. We all knew this at the beginning of the season.

Also after the presentation yesterday there was no champagne spraying or any consumption to be seen.

The team are aware and ready for the important fixture this weekend

All those seasons when 1st got you auto promotion. Finally we do it and theres still a playoff. One way or another we have to beat this.Make no mistake there will be tension.

Hi Andy, I was gutted for York last year, they were by far the best team but would have taken promotion if we had won the playoff. But we'll do it next Sunday. The lads and coaches are focussed and will give us something even bigger to celebrate but the league title should carry a huge kudos and automatic promotion.

Even the title of this thread shows some Oldam supporters know that your team could end up with nothing this year. I've seen so many other teams in sport come so close but fail at the final hurdle. Cougars are now back to full strength and playing powerful fast rugby. Sorry to say for Oldham fans, that Cougars will finish you off Sunday. Then it will be a tall order for you to pick yourselves up and beat North Wales and Swinton in consecutive weeks.

Firstly, congrats to Oldham for winning the league leader's shield - to do that in this division this year took some doing, and fair play, you did it.

So you have won something.... remember Huddersfield winning the SL LL shield t'other year? Didn't make the Grand Final, but they did win something...first silverware for some years if I remember correctly.  Could it be the same scenario for Oldham this year? Always a possibility when there's 13 v 13 and 80 mins to get through at least once, but that's the hand we've all been dealt

Secondly, yes we knew at the start of the season the whole thing was going to be a bit of a ######'s muddle, but it's what we have all been stuck with and the Red Hall idiots are changing it all again for next season (no surprise there)....

cru....Cru.....CRUSADERS!!!!!!

Haha, dream on mate, Plan for the playoffs because you don't have a hope at Whitebank. Even with the sneaky March brothers in your squad. If i was you, i'd rest a few players for the later playoffs. Happy days. By the way the original post is crazy! We celebrated because we are the best team in the league! Roll on Sunday! Come on you Yeds!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well done Oldham - you are top of the league and fully deserve it in my opinion, and even if we would have had a fair league system you would have almost certainly finished top and again in my opinion deserved automatic promotion, having said that can't see you losing next week against Keighley but although we (Swinton) are confident of our chances I think the 2nd promotion spot is up for grabs - so enjoy your shield, it took some winning

ORLFC has come close and failed at the final hurdle far too often.

This one would hurt the most though. By a long way.

But thre ios someting in this side. And they give oyu a confidence about them. They have passed nearly all the tests of them with flying colours.
