Brexit the positive thread

Seems to me there are some people who would love to see this country fail just so they can say "I told you so".

If what they say were actually true then Canada, Switzerland, Australia, Hong Kong etc would all be living in poverty with permanent recession whilst the economy would be booming in Greece, Spain, Portugal, Italy etc.

Whereas if what the Leave Liars had said was even remotely true there'd be a nice £350m cheque heading straight over to the NHS right now.

And another one next Sunday.

Still, it's not like even the biggest cheerleader for Leave has had to retract some of its wholesale fiction now is it?

Oh, wait ...

Nope. Could do without the excitement to be honest.

That's brexiters for you; leaving will be deemed a success no matter how deeply into the the country gets dragged.

If the UK does not achieve any of those three things then it hasn't left the EU because if the UK does not control its own borders, does not make its own laws and does not negotiate its own trade deals then there can only be one institution that does do those things for us and that's the EU given that we are presently still in the EU.

Leaving the EU means regaining control of borders, governance and trade.  All else falls into place as a result of those three things.  Those three things were the central tenets of the leave campaign and are what were universally understood as leaving the EU.  It is up to the present government to ensure those three things are achieved.

But thats not what you voted for.

Example, if the UK gets something like a Norwegian Model (not exactly the same of course).

We will still have the ECHR.  We have limits on what other trade deals we do (customs union, means we are limited to what the EU allow).  And we won't have full control of the borders.  We would of left the EU, so referendum fulfilled, but we won't meet a single of the criteria laid out by Martyn.

Obviously we could end up with an option that does fulfil Martyn's criteria, but the point is both options (and all points in-between) meet Brexit.  Which is why 'Brexit means Brexit' means everything and nothing at the same time.

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

That's rubbish, and I'm sure there'll be some pitfalls ahead, but some people seem to just want to be permanently pessimistic and try to create a self-fulfilling prophecy. We are still a major economy, countries will still be keen to trade with us, it will all work itself out once pragmatism and commercial realities kick in. Lots to be optimistic about I reckon, but some folk are only happy when they're miserable.

Yes it is.  That is exactly what I voted for.

It is what the leave campaign was campaigning for too.

So about that £350 million for the NHS....

It is what they voted for.  This scenario was put forward, amongst others, before the vote.

I would also say we would still meet the criteria laid out by Martyn to some extent.  London will remain the capital and we remain independent.  We will have to meet pragmatic arrangements with our neighbours about the other criteria.

Which nobody ever believed anyway.

Exactly. Leave were liars and none of their promises of a better tomorrow should be believed.

Edit: insert a not!

Both sides were liars to some extent. But the past is the past, it's what happens in future that counts.

Yup. Hence the efforts from all sensible people to keep us in the EU whilst all the leave folk get on with quitting left, right and centre.

If they were that sensible then they would know that's not going to happen.

Have we invoked Article 50?

When are we going to?

Nice and definite then.

Something this good for Britain and suddenly everyone wants to delay it.

Can't think why.

Not all that voted out think as a collective so I doubt everyone wants to delay. Unless you have asked everyone which I doubt .

Nobody who voted out knew what they were getting but I assume they wanted their fantasyland delivered promptly.

Some of you seem to have a problem understanding the word "positive" and the phrase " no gloom here".

Why don't you start a" Brexit the Negatives, No happiness here" thread and you can wallow in the misery that obviously floats your boats.

As you seem to be able to read the minds of everyone, any chance I can have next week's lottery numbers?

It's to start preliminary negotiations with non EU countries about trade deals so we have something better to go to when we leave.

It's like when you want to leave your job. You make sure you have another one to go to first before you hand your notice in.
