Two things this week.

The brilliant Boo Hewerdine and in particular his forced child deportation song - "The Man That I Am"

Right now listening to up-and-coming folk rockers Mawkin's latest album after watching them live last night. Fantastic energy and great musicianship.

"I am the avenging angel; I come with wings unfurled, I come with claws extended from halfway round the world. I am the God Almighty, I am the howling wind. I care not for your family; I care not for your kin. I come in search of terror, though terror is my own; I come in search of vengeance for crimes and crimes unknown. I care not for your children, I care not for your wives, I care not for your country, I care not for your lives." - (c) Jim Boyes - "The Avenging Angel"

What is this, your first and last albums when sorted alphabetically?

Let's take a look at my collection...

#1 Record (Big Star)

Zoot Allures (Frank Zappa)

Slayer - You Against You.

IMO, this is 'Reign In Blood' quality, from the absolutely immense latest LP 'Repentless'. Slayer sounding more powerful than they did 30 years ago, incredible band.

That's like proper old school Slayer. The blokes from Exodus/Testament seem to have reinvigorated the band.

UK Subs have released 26 LPs alphabetically. From 'Another Kind of Blues' in 1979 to 'Ziezo' in 2016.

And the latest is pretty good. Charlie Harper is about 75 and still at it like a good in.

Punk Rock doesn't get much better than this:

Joe Jackson - Look Sharp (2016 Reissue). No bonus tracks, but marginal sound quality improvements in what will never be a smooth-sounding recording.

Great songs, though; I owned this album on cassette shortly after it was originally released and played it to death.

I'm the man is also excellent, but you know what it's like when the right song/album hits you at exactly the right point in your life. I can play every single song from 'Look Sharp!' in my head.

He also predicted Michael Bay's Hollywood career "In the cinema tonight/we sit and watch the robots fight/the human beings don't have much to say". (Instant Mash).

ABC have released a sequel to their 1982 debut album, The Lexicon of Love.

The good news is that The Lexicon of Love II is pretty damn good!

Ramones ... Beat On The Brat... Just returned from New York I went on a guided tour to find that CBGB's is now a very hip restaurant, they have named a street after Joey but such a shame to see such a historic place disappear.
