Once again the boundary review is independent , you saying it isn't doesn't make it any more true.

I thought the boundary commission was a completely impartial and independant public body that makes their decisions based on statistics such as demographics. As far as i know they aren't permitted to use any sort of political data in their decision making process when recommending any changes.

As far as boundary changes I'm only repeating what Norman Baker said, Cameron wouldn't be so keen on them if the didn't favour the Tories. As for manipulating the economy, look at the last two sets of employment figures. Look at the promises of trans Pennine electrification.  The comparisons with Putin whilst not exact are near enough. Both tell lies without compunction.  Both like the trappings of power.  Both (IMO) are terrific egomaniacs.  Both are extremely vain, Cameron even dyes his hair!

I've posted before that Bradford was supposed to get a Central & East constituency that followed no historic or geographical profile. Instead of just incorporating all the area inside the ring road, it zig-zagged to take in a maximum of the Muslim enclaves. This was because, right up to this election, Bradford had three constituencies and a 30% Muslim population. However, no Muslim had ever been elected as an MP for the city. When the Lib Dems withdrew their support for the boundary changes, that plan was scuppered.

Following the 2015 election, we now have two out of the three MP's who are Muslim ... Naz Shah and Imran Khan. Many (most?) non-Muslims in my constituency have reservations about the number and voting patterns of postal votes in Bradford West. George Galloway has challenged the result because he lost to a landslide after winning by a landslide in 2010. Both the 2010 and 2015 campaigns featured some pretty nasty tactics involving personal attacks on rival candidates.

It would certainly suit me if the previously proposed Bradford Central constituency was introduced. Though probably not the Muslim community because they would probably lose one of their MP's.

They don't, they have the facility to opt out of the political levie

George Galloway lost Bradford West because he was an utterly useless MP who used the constituency to further his own interests and nothing more.

Bradford West now has an MP who is from Bradford, who lives and grew up in the constituency and who managed to attract votes from all sections of the local community, even from Tories voting Labour to get shut of the odious Galloway, hence the landslide result.

That's a significant improvement, I'd say.

I'd have thought the new MP would actually care more for non-Muslims than George Galloway

This is where I meet Ron McKay.

He is Galloway’s close aide and “best friend” for 38 years. He is said to wield a lot of influence in Respect. He is from Glasgow, and has a puffy face...

“It would take me much longer than I’ve got to explain biraderi politics in Bradford, clan-based politics, and people actually do deliver 20, 30, 50 votes. Through their extended families, what tends to happen is, the kind of head of the household, or the kind of head of the clan, makes a decision how they’ll vote. So if somebody, in I don’t know, Penge (South London) said I could deliver you 50 votes you would laugh. But here . . . it’s true. They deliver bundles of votes.”

Nadine Dorries (Tory) was against the boundary changes.  Out of principle I'm sure, nothing to do with her safe seat disappearing...

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm no defender of biraderi politics in Bradford, quite the opposite, I think it absolutely stinks, but Naz Shah was far from a beneficiary of it in Bradford West. If she had been, there would have been no anti-Galloway landslide in her favour.

She wasn't the candidate chosen by the local CLP, and didn't have the support of many within it during the election campaign - to their absolute discredit. She hadn't even been a member of the Labour Party for that long. But she won, against all expectations, by building a wide coalition of support against Galloway's nasty, poisonous brand of politics that has done nothing for Bradford whatsoever, and she has the chance now to represent the whole constituency in Parliament, not just certain vested interests within it.

Whether she delivers on that in the next 5 years is up to her, and she'll be judged on her performance, but to dismiss her purely because of her religion, as you seek to do, is utterly nauseous in my opinion.

I am not dismissing her on the basis of her religion. She was just as culpable as Galloway in giving out "misleading" information ... like saying she was obliged to undertake an underage marriage in Pakistan, when she was ostensibly sixteen years old at the time. A layman might ask the question of whether, if there are two marriage certificates, as she claims, was the immigration of her husband aided by the use of false documents. If so, she was party to the offence.

To be fair to her, Galloway has apparently failed to meet the deadline by which he had to formally submit a challenge to the electoral process at the 2015 election. Presumably, he thought he couldn't win.

As you say, time will tell whether she is an effective MP.

Incidentally, I certainly have no qualms about Imran Hussein being elected to Parliament. I was involved in a neighbourhood campaign against a particularly dubious planning consent. At the appeal meeting, Cllr Hussein offered the residents support and ensured that the appeals panel actually visited the site in question. He is not a councillor for our ward.

I would advise not believing a word of anything George Galloway says about Naz Shah.

I'm pleased to hear you are not concerned by the religious background of Bradford's MPs. Your earlier post gave a quite different impression.

So not a big deal if it's changed then?

Well yeah actually, why would one party want to make funding of another party more difficult? (yeah, yeah I know) A company I used to work for was a major contributor to tory funds, they never asked me if it was ok.

But they wouldn't be implemented if they didn't favour the Tories.  The reason they weren't implemented in the last Parliament was because the Lib/Dems wouldn't vote for them.  In other words they are not manadatory.

Exactly. Given "normal" peoples' attitude to politics, and  given the choice of having to pay a bit extra towards the Labour party I bet many will take the line of least resistance and pocket the difference.  The Labour party was founded by the trades unions to represent working people in Parliament.  Previously they had contributed to the Liberals, but found there was a conflict of interest because many of the employers were also supporters of the Liberal party, so they decided to sponsor "Labour" MP's to represent them.

So you you worked for them, did you own the company?

My company employees dont get a say what i spend my money on.

Its my money not theirs.

Union Leaders are still only employees of the union.

As for the opt out i bet most cant be bothered going through the process

Bit like you really

Half truths, speculation, guesswork, blatant lies and wishful thinking.

Edit: A lot like you in truth

So do you but then neither of us are the Prime Minister, asking people to trust us. As Dr Goebbels said, "tell a big enough lie often enough and it becomes the truth"  They did away with their unions too.  Look where it got them.
