Cathares Knights - Catalans Dragons

Jonathan Soum a half back? Is there a distinct shortage of halves at the Aude clubs?

Vinnie Anderson (Louis' brother) and Jonathan Soum are the halves, yes.

I think Grésèque is injured but other guys might know better than me on this one because I was extremely surprised too!

Thanks for the updates, I see the crowd has been reported as 6000.

For this not to fizzle out and remain competitive, does it need to become more of an Origin type fixture, i.e. with Catalans restricted to home-grown lads? Just a thought.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Well the purpose of it is for Cathares to show that they can be competitive with pro sides (they want to be part of the Challenge Cup sooner or later) so the best thing is for them to play the strongest Catalan team available.

Da Costa is promising. The "kid" who replaced him as hooker for the U19 game (Khedimi) is very athletic too.

Marc Palanques a former French international forward is the Carcassonne lead man in this Cathare project. He wants to put this entity in the Challenge Cup in 2017. Saturday was quite a special day in the Aude for the game. Games starting at 10am and going on till 10pm at night with a grand post-match reception attracting 800 players, mangement and supporters. The near 6,000 crowd at Domec was as many as Narbonne got the night before for their Pro 2 derby against Carcassonne. The people at Limoux seem joined at the hip with the ASC in developing this project - Lezignan a little less so.I thought the whole feel of the day was a notch or two up on 2015 with plenty going on around the Stadium. The lovely weather helped. It was well presented with the Cathares having their distinctive colours, emblem and identity as well as their own anthem to match Catalans El Segadors. A real super day. We just crave for more of them.

Living just south of Lezignan, I went to the game and was pleasantly surprised. The size of the crowd was good but a real pleasing thing was the amount of younger spectators at the game, lots of 16 to 20 year olds in the main stand near us. It seemed that any local inter club rivalry was set aside and the support for the Cathares was there in spades. There is genuine potential for this team to get up and running. I would rank their current playing standard at the level of a strong English Division 1 team.

I can only echo Audois's sentiments that the day was really well organised and very professional. Although there are lots of Union teams in the Languedoc, they aln't much cop and they are fairly complacent. There is definitely room for another top grade league team to form in this area and head towards the English leagues. The only thing to stop this happening is a lack of leadership and expertise from both the French and English RL hierarchy. ( I know both federations have previous for this, but by the law of averages they must get something correct soon ).

A quick aside, onto the Dragons, if they can sort out their frankly embarrassing away form and keep Todd Carney & Richie Myler fit then they will be nailed on for a top four place this coming season.

All in all an enjoyable day and the chance to say that I was there when an idea was turned into a reality.
