Tomkins backs fixture doubling up

What if it ends in a draw after golden point? Granted, it’s unlikely but it would be so very Rugby League that everyone would end up stood around looking confused after they draw 18-18 after golden point.

Plan on until someone wins, obviously.

That’s certainly not in the rules of Super League and unlikely to be in the rules of the Challenge Cup.

Good point, HW - Sod's Law has a happy knack of appearing at times like this!

In this season especially, there must be a means of deciding a cup tie on the first occasion.  If it the toss of a coin, then so be it.  If it is play on for as long as it takes until somebody scores (a la NHL, post-season play-off matches), then you could record two different results for the same game, with that for SL being a draw.

What a farcical way to win the cup it's bad enough having to do it as it is without having one game count for two.

The SL game would be drawn, and then they’d play on to see who went through to the next round of the cup.

But that’s not how it works.

I’m not saying it is, I’m trying to explain to you how Tompkins’ suggestion might work as you seemed confused by it.

This has happened before in amateur rugby where a single match has counted in the cup and league competitions. Not heard of it in the pro league

But it could work as a one off. It’s not that complicated really. Plenty scoffed at no scrums (myself included)

Given that these teams have to play one round more than the majority of clubs left in the competition it’s actually more fair to them to allow this.

When I was in Year 11 we drew the same school from Hull in both the Yorkshire and England Schools Cup Quarter Finals. So we played one game for two competitions - special clemency was given to avoid more than one trip to Hull 😄

Would the game be on bbc or sky sports?

I would think that both networks should have the rights, just like Channel 9 and Fox have for three games a week in Australia
