Do they earn it or does the game as a product earn it? If a whole host of clubs go to the wall and you are left with a handful; is that a viable product for the TV companies? Clearly not and without that revenue, none of those clubs are solvent. As stated earlier, if the RFL / IMG are serious about the growing the game as a product a more equitable distribution of central funds is a must. Otherwise, IMG’s legacy will be anything but seeing the game grow. Edited October 2, 2022 by Roughyed Rats

SLE then makes a payment to the RFL (for services such as administration, providing match officials, etc) some of that money is then distributed to tiers 2 & 3 as central funding. They should keep it all then and good luck to them Perhaps the remaining clubs should set up their own competition, possibly even go back to winter rugby to try and make ends meet?

Incidentally, it's not a system I agree with. I don't think SL should ever have been separated from RFL - In my opinion all of the divisions should be RFL products and the TV money should be going to RFL for them to distribute to all clubs as central funding. The amount to each club/tier would still be up for debate. All my previous post was doing was setting out the situation as it is, I wasn't saying I agree with the system. We'll have to wait and see what (if any) changes to funding the brave new IMG era brings.

It would certainly be interesting to see just how long TV interest in EuroLeague lasts if this isn’t addressed and a whole host of clubs go by the wayside. There are quite a few, my own included, on the brink. As I say, it will be interesting to see whether wanting the game to grow is genuine or just corporate speak rhetoric. Tubby
In my house, I’m the only one who brings any money in, but I see the value in the rest of my family, even the dog, and I choose to subsidise their existence. I suppose I could just keep all the money for myself and sod the rest of them, but that’s just me, I’m obviously a socialist. 4 1

That’s radical sociology actually wanting your family to survive…..even thrive!! Who knows, one day your kids might be able to grow and survive on their own two feet?!! I hope that there are more details and full consideration for League 1 (as integral to the new era) with it’s mix of clubs, well established and those in regions to help expand the game. I believe that IMG has said they “remain flexible” for L1 and there will be no removal of its funding (thanks!), which currently is not a lot.

To do that you have to go to work and keep them happy it’s a balance like everything in life. Imagine SL saying to Sky thanks for the £20m a year but we are going to give half of it to these clubs that aren’t even on Sky. Then we are going to give their games away for free to a rival channel. I might be mistaken, but I believe you have the chronology rather confused. And I don’t imagine Sky would mind if it was shared more equitably.
