Leigh deserved the win, they could’ve won by a bigger margin if they had taken their chances. From about 20mins onwards Leigh got more into the match and then in the 2nd half it was all Leigh. They played some cracking RL by keeping the ball alive and Ipape tore us apart. Saints had nothing to offer although it was good to see Paasi back. The discipline is abysmal, and we have zero pace out wide, if Ben Davies is our future centre or halfback then we are doomed. The club may as well stick a pair of roller-skates on a mannequin’s feet and push it around as it’d offer more. I think Lussick came on with about 10mins to go, he has been a really poor signing from our ex-coach to go along With Hopoate. Well played too Leigh.

Saints looked very lethargic and the WCC hangover was definitely still in effect.

This is pretty much a repeat of the last time Saints played in the WCC against the Roosters. Got themselves up for that game and played brilliantly on the night (all be it eventually losing), but they were absolutely awful for weeks after that game. It was Covid that gave them the time to regroup & reset and then get back to their best, going on to win the GF again.

Wellens has a lot of work to do in the coming weeks to get them back up to where we all know they can be. This is still the same team who outplayed the double NRL champions on their own turf just last month and they'll click back into their usual standard at some point. Question is how much damage will have been done before they get to that point. There's nothing in the last 3 games that can't be fixed up, they haven't suddenly become bad players overnight. Their performances have all been sloppy, low energy and ill disciplined

I said at the start of the year Saints wouldn't finish top because of the WCC, so their focus is really on just securing a play-off spot and then aim to be at their best for the end of the year when it really matters.

I just hope that turnaround happens this week against a Hull side who took a real beating themselves this weekend

Found the comments from Wellens in this article quite strange https://www.totalrl.com/st-helens-boss-paul-wellens-emailed-super-league-referees-about-his-concern-following-leigh-leopards-flashpoint/

He's written an email to the Super League refs, because of one decision he feels has gone against his team? For what it's worth, I'm fairly certain that there was contact to the head, and the officials must've been as well. And they will have had a better view than the match review panel, given it wasn't on Sky.

At the same time, I guess Wellens will also complain if a ref puts an opposing player on report, for something that would otherwise be a card
