Bradman Better
Two Newcastle fullbacks won the Dally M men's and women's awards.: Kalyn Ponga and Tamika Upton. Kaylyn Ponga narrowly pipped Shaun Johnson by 2 points, his lead coming only in the final round. But it is also worth noting that one of the two Dally M Centres of the year was an Englishman named Herbie Farnworth. Dally M men's team of the year 2023. Dunbar
Well done to Herbie Farnworth for making the team of the year. Shows how well Ponga played at the back end of the year (and how 6 points on offer every game can swing the table quickly). Very well deserved. Another Englishman, Dominic Young, was on the short list of nominees for wingers of the year. Though he didn't win one of the spots this year, I expect him to do so in the next few years at the Sydney Roosters. HawkMan
I genuinely misread the thread title, I thought the Daily Mail had got involved with the game.
Damien
It's great to see Herbie Farnworth in there. His potential was there for all to see years ago and he is just getting better and better.
Bradman Better
Another important statistic: 8 of the 13 players in the team of the year were either non Pacific Island heritage New Zealand citizens (Shaun Johnson, with a Laotian mother) or else of Pacific Island heritage. That leaves one Englishman and only 4 non-islander heritage Aussies, one of whom (Ezra Mam) is aboriginal. So this is further evidence of the ethnic inclusiveness of the NRL. StandOffHalf
I like Herbie's Ronald Colman-esque moustache. Very dapper.
