Any of the Irish lads ever been to Ireland?

Rather than actually addressing criticism they've simply decided to remove from the team lists the club teams that players play for. I do know though that the lads I recognise from previously are all English. Apart from one that is who just happens to be the RLI chairman's son 😂. What's good for the goose obviously isn't good enough for the gander!

They've promised not to tell any Irish jokes for the length of time they are in the Irish camp.

Look the Italy team is based in Australia. What's wrong with the Ireland team being based in England? 😉

After watching England V France it honestly is the very least of our worries.

I'd rather watch the Aussie based Italy v this Ireland.

Also Wales-Scotland earlier today.

Does anyone know if Scotland fielded any local players?

I hope it was full of them with that scoreline 😂

There is only less than  30 under 16 players  in the Ireland  it appears.

Besides the obvious  problems  with Rugby league  Ireland there  is next to no assistance  from Australia  or England  in developing the game in Ireland.

They don't even try at youth level. It would be easy enough to get at least summer competition going in each province but Rugby League Ireland do nothing and arent interested. There's plenty of club RU and schools RU players doing little from April to September.

There is in my opinion no future in the game for international teams who rely so heavily of heritage players.

You never saw anything of the T20 WC then? I’m not saying heritage is right, far from it, but other sports don’t seem to worry about it as much as RL fans do.

There will certainly be no World Cup places based on the new IRL laws.

Both Ireland and Scotland need junior competitions ASAP to be eligible again

What teams in the T20 are you referring to? Also how many of those have been competing in World Cups for 30 years?

And this has been a great change. These nations certainly need that big stick because the carrot of a World Cup certainly hasn't worked.

I'm going to guess that it's specifically the USA.

And the Netherlands.

Most of these  benefits  went to   England  and Australia. They benefited agents and players.

Besides  a handful  of officials and token Irish born  players  players getting  a trip and a bit of PR very few tangible  benefits  came out of it.

I know the Netherlands had some Dutch players. The US too had US born players and most players played for teams in the US.

I think there are other key differences too. The Netherlands has something like 6,000 registered Cricket players and a long history of playing the game. To me they are more analogous to someone like Tonga in RL in that the game is played to a decent level domestically and that there are just better, more professional players to call upon. It supplements that, not replaces it, and I have no issue with that. The US has numerous leagues and Cricket is big amongst the Asian diaspora. I presume a lot of players qualify on residency grounds.

Even if we accept these teams are the same as an Ireland or Scotland it's a small number out of 20. I do think though its all a little different than players turning out for countries that dont play the game when they fancy a jolly every 4 years in a World Cup.

Completely agree. The USA has a professional league that is outbidding the ECB as well.

Dutch Cricket  as a history  as long as Dutch Soccer/ Football.

One dual club  won the top flight  of Football  in the Netherlands.

Netherlands and USA have been cricketing countries for over 150 years. It is a popular sport in both countries with thousands of players.

Ireland and Scotland don't even have 10 clubs between them and there is more junior activity happening here in the midlands. There is so much to do in both countries and it's a real shame the default is to rely on heritage players at a junior level.
