Nah the problem was certain players who’d had their own way for too long. DP was initially brought in to amongst other things improve the standards and change the culture amongst the playing staff at the club. Player power eventually kicked in with individuals crying to Fitzy. The club buckled and failed to back DP. DP was handsomely paid up on the rest of his five year contract and the rest is history. DP home happy and doing ok. Wire are just the same unpredictable Wire.

He had plenty of backing, he had a good run of getting players he wanted, brought players with him, got rid of better players. Ultimately he  failed and has to accept his part that, he's doing well at Wakefield has nothing to do with his time at Warrington. Not every coach will be successful at each club they work at, Tony Smith is a perfect example.

Exactly. People can't have it both way. He can't take the praise where it works but be absolved of the blame when it fails.

Treating Matuatia as though he was Ellery Hanley and basing your whole team around him was the perfect illustration of how far he lost it at Wire.

There is no doubt that Pete M was definitely a favourite of his. DP won’t be the first individual to recruit some of his trusted confidants. It happens a lot in a whole host of workplace situations. He has recruited a whole gang of his back room confidants at Wakefield 😂

Sometimes things just dont work out, for whatever reason. I think both parties were happy to move on and I'm sure there will be mistakes Powell made at Warrington that he will have taken away with him and to learn from.

One of those, as others have said, will be the 'no dickheads' policy Trinity have on recruitment, and will drop intrest in a player, no matter how talented, if they're a bit of a b3llend. Some people have said he struggles with egos. He may well just be more suited to a club with less expectation, but still has ambition.

Whatever it was, both clubs seem to be happy with their current set up. Let's leave it at that.

I think this is spot on. As I say, I'm a big fan of Powell, was delighted with his signing for us, and tbh, wish his focus would have been to be the cherry on top of the Steve Price team who had a negative style that imo saw us fall short at times, rather than the wider, rather vague, culture piece that is maybe more for a DoR.

I'm very happy to see that he is doing well at Wakey as it was just one of those things that didn't work out at Wire.

I'm not sure I agree, but I'm not party to inside info.

Powell saw off Hill, King, Mulhern and others who were the heart and soul of our squad. They went on to perform better at their new clubs. What happened to Widdop, Hughes, Clark? They became a shadow of the players they once were.

Powell was a stain on our club and I blame him for the years he took away from the potential that squad had. We had to start again after the mess he left. Burgess is still rebuilding but won't hang around to find out.

We've not learned from the squad consistency that Leeds had in their glory years, or Wigan who seem to make minimal changes each year.

Anyway, sorry, where was I? Ah yes, Powell trashed the place.
