Purely out of interest, what photo editing software do people use?

Photoshop Elements

Until recently I used the software bundled with the Canon, now moved onto Adobe Lightroom and have an eye on CS3, but don't see the point in the later unless your willing to put the hard work in.

Also use photomatrix very occasionally for the odd HDR shot.

But then you can't polish a t*rd!

Photoshop Elements but to be fair I don't do much editing - the real skill is taking the best pic first time!! ;)

By the way there is a great feature called "My FIrst DSLR" in the DIgital SLR photography magazine this month - well worth a read if you're serious about buying one.

Now then, it's a race between Sandie....and Fairburn....and the little man is in........yeees he's in.

Actually I'd add that this lens issue is very annoying for the Nikon D60. I can't actually get the lens I want because there's no stock in the country - demand outruns supply by 7:1. There's a lot of D40x/D60 uses but not enough lenses to keep us happy!

I am now looking at having to double the amount I wanted to spend - which I can't really afford to do - and getting a Nikon own lens.

Sigma do some excellent lenses at very reasonable prices - I recently bought a Sigma 70-300 Telephoto for

Sorry but that just made me hit the screen in rage and frustration.

I know they do a very nice 70-300 telephoto. It's that one I want. For Nikon AF there are 4 versions, 2 work with the D40x/D60 and 2 don't.

I can get the 2 that don't from any camera shop in the country.

I could get a face to face chat with Keyser Soze more easily than I can get hold of the 2 that do.

Oops sorry - I got mine from Wokingham Photographic if that helps

Would it help if I said it was a ###### lens?

:P It couldn't hurt but unfortunately I wouldn't believe you.

I'll be getting the Nikkor version and hoping my bank balance forgives me.

Go forth and multiply.

Although I believe that all Canon AF lenses fit all Canon cameras.

Have a look at the Nikonians page - there are complex diagrams about which lenses go with which cameras.

I think we should have a photography thread over here - nowt wrong with copying rlfans!

This is actually an important issue.

Are Canon suitable lens much easier and cheaper to obtain?

We seem to have found a specialist subject of half the posters on here!

I've never had a problem, so far for my 400d I've got;

- Sigma 10-20mm

- Sigma 18-55mm

- Cannon 50mm

- Cannon 75-300mm is usm.

Not sure how they compare in price, I guess a quick look on Jessops or Amazon will give you a rough idea.

Sounds like its a bone of contention amongst our Nikon friends though! :P

I've found that Canon GENERALLY are easier to find lenses for - Sony is becoming easier as they make a bigger play in the DSLR market and all Minolta lensesd fit SOny too.

Quite a timely thread this. Just ordered a Canon EOS 400D (Black) + EFS 18-55mm Lens from Jessops. Reckon this will do for starters after my little party point and click

18-55mm lens is just the job - very versatile

Happy photography!

Looks like Canon are set to launch a new entry level DSLR, not sure what the price in the UK is going to be, but the functionality seems to be a hybrid of the 400D and 450D with a couple of comprimises along the way.

New Canon 1000D

Looks a good camera. Not sure why anyone would buy a 450D in preference to it thought?

I am going to collect my lovely new farcically expensive Nikkor lens on my way home.

I am also going to be eating bread and water for lunch for the next few months.

A photography forum of our own!!

What do you all reckon on a photography thread on here? Maybe somewhere we can post our photos, ask advice, compare cameras, ask questions etc. Nothing too highbrow or arty-f&rty, just somewhere likeminded people who like photography or want to learn more can go and have a laugh and maybe learn off each other... yes or no? What do you think?

I've only got the kit lens with the 450d, and very good it is too... but, I'm thinking of something with a bit more punch, price is always a consideration, but, depends if the urge gets the better of me

I think the thread's an excellent idea. Get it started, Mr Townie!

Although if artsifartiness is banned then I may struggle.
