Wiltshire Rhino
Been watching quite a bit of Portugal's Primeira Liga this season. Sporting CP are aiming to win their first League title since the 01/02 season The most points any of the other clubs have gained through late goals is 3. Sporting have, so far, earned 18 (EIGHTEEN) points with goals after the 80th minute. Currently 7pts ahead (probably 4pts ahead after tonight) with 5 games to go. VAMOS SPORTING! Bleep1673
I know I am the champion of stupid questions, but do Football clubs have the same rules about supplying hospitality as Rugby does? ie, do they have to supply a meal after a match & refreshments? And as the hotel industry are closed down, what time will Sunderland get home after travelling to Plymouth over the weekend, that is one hell of a round trip if they have to call at KFC on the way back, or motorway services! gingerjon
Winner takes all for Hastings United Women this afternoon. Home to second-placed Montpellier Villa. (Or Hasting are in second. I'm not sure). Either way, to the victor, the league title. Edited May 9, 2021 by gingerjon Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. There will be photos to follow (and I'll put up a link) but, man, what a game. What a muddyfunstering game. Villa go two up. The second an annoyingly well taken free kick. Hastings pull one back. First attack after the break and Hastings hit the bar. Villa get another via a comical/sad own goal. Time is running out. Penalty. 2-3. Penalty. 3-3. And then a GOLAZO from Georgia Tibble sends the collection of people who were walking their dog/having a slow drink at the Pilot Bar/completely ignoring the rules into raptures. 4-3. A lifetime later (ten minutes) the referee blows and Hastings are champions. Tears from the Villa players who had more than given their all. The same from Hastings but for joy. Sport. You can't beat it. 1 1 Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life. Bleep1673
So Southend & Grimsby get relegated from the EFL, now they are threatening to sue somebody because of their uselesness, They are saying they shouldn't be relegated because no-one is being relegated from the National League. But as there is no-one being promoted from National League 1's and Dover Athletic is terminated, the National League will be reduced to 20 teams next year, 18 if they win their challenge, or even less if EFL promote the NL Champions & Play-off winners. Two are coming down from EFL, two going up, and no relegation from National League meaning 22 will contest next season. Dover's position is uncertain, they are still hoping to be in NL next season. The latest news is that they will have a 12 point penalty and £40,000 fine, but won't get relegated. https://www.kentonline.co.uk/dover/sport/dover-athletic-hit-with-points-deduction-and-fine-244591/ Edited May 10, 2021 by HawkMan

How can Dover still be in NL when all their played games have been expunged, and they haven't played a game since before Christmas? Could Toronto Wolfpack make a similar claim> If two ARE coming down from the EFL, and Southend and Grimsby win their appeal, who will go down then? HawkMan
Reading this it is does seem Dover will be in the NL next season. https://www.kentonline.co.uk/dover/sport/dover-athletic-hit-with-points-deduction-and-fine-244591/ I'm not sure quite what grounds Grimsby and Southend have for appealing. Two are going down as EFL competition rules and two coming up. They obviously are desperately clutching at straws, if no one was coming up then yes, but the NL fulfilled their season obligations , what goes on at the bottom of the NL doesn't effect the arrangement at the top of the NL and bottom of the EFL. Reading the Dover chairman's comments a few weeks back, the NL restarted after a government bail out which guaranteed funds until end of December, on the assumption that crowds would then come back. That didn't happen and the NL asked clubs to continue with loaned money, Dover chairman stated Dover FC has never been in debt and never will get into debt just to complete an irrelevant season with no relegation, ( they were already out of the picture for promotion). He sent their loaned players back to their parent clubs, leaving them with insufficient numbers to complete fixtures, a deliberate policy to force themselves out of playing, hence the penalty and fine. Edit- recalculation- 24 started NL, Macclesfield and Dover dropped out, leaving 22, two up, two down, plus Dover's return means 23 next season.
