I enjoy food shopping.

My starting supermarket line up is Waitrose and Aldi, with ASDA and Sainsburies on the bench.

For the papers and that emergency bottle of wine it's the co-op and Patels. Patels is also handy for starting rumours.

Sainsbury's is 2 minutes' walk from home, so that is my main one. Other than that, a short bus ride will take me to Waitrose, M&S, Morrison's, Wing Yip, ASDA, Lidl & Aldi, so I'm pretty well set. I can get basics from the Star shop across the road, if I need it. Heady stuff, for a lad who grew up with the nearest shop a drive, rather than a walk, away.

And Bang Bang Oriental is opening in the next few days, so that's another.

We have a Waitrose close enough to be described as a "corner shop". Just a little further off is a large Tesco and a Marks and Spencer. No Aldi or Lidl for us without a 20 minute drive.

Does anyone actually enjoy it? It's just one of life's necessities.

I love a good foody shop.... but if you see the size of me you'll understand?

I'm just off to the market in Bugue to get something for tea.... no fixed ideas.... this is France... there's so much good stuff I'll go with whatever looks the best....

I do. Also when I'm on holiday I enjoy checking out the local market. Best ones for me were in paphos, and heraklion

We have a fruit and veg box delivered weekly which gives us the best value for money we spend on any food at £12 a pop.  Meat in the main from the local butcher, but in an emergency the Co-Op.

Then the rest of the food shop is done at either Tesco, Asda or Sainsburys depending on the proximity of said supermarket to the kids after school activities during the week when a food shortage occurs!  Plus well served in the village by a CoOp, Spar, Independent corner shop and a butchers so no set "big shop" routine in our house!

Try to spend as little time in supermarkets as possible. Used to work for a company that supplied the supermarkets, so because of their antics and arrogance I have little time for them anyway

Am catering for 12 today. Have been to the butchers for the meat and Booths for kegs of beer, but having been in Asda, Morrisons and Tesco several times this week (whilst pondering menus, and trying to get inspiration - I'm no great cook) what struck me was how generic they all are (Booths aside) and generally don't do anything different to the others.

I don't know whether there are any forum members who work for the health service or emergency services and live in Yorkshire, but there is a place in Tankersley near Sheffield called 'Company Shop'. It is supplied by waitrose, Sainsbury, Tesco, Morrisons, and Marks and Spencer. You have to be a member and membership is restricted to the above. You can buy hugely discounted and I mean hugely food and household stuff there.

Given that I work for a Wholefoods distribution company and get discount of cost less 20% we rarely visit supermarkets

My local Morrisons has a more varied meat section than the other supermarkets I regularly visit. Other than that, there's little difference across the rest of the departments.
