Rochdale is wet.

It does get pretty damp in that part of the world, and they have had issues with the pitch before. Recall the furore over the football club's FA cup game with Tottenham not so long ago - a google image search is instructive.

It's been mainly fine over here today with not much rain. Pitch ought to be in great condition. There'd have to be an overnight deluge to get the game called off.

I thought you still had the playing surface covered until Wednesday.

Yea the players will certainly get on with it, IF the officials allow it.

Don't forget it is them who have the say if the match goes ahead or not.

Unfortunately, some pitches shared by football and rugby league clubs simply aren't resilient enough to cope with dual usage, certainly at this time of year. Couple of examples from the past week: Keighley v Coventry last Sunday turned into a mudbath then yesterday's Steeton v Holker Old Boys football was called off because of an unfit pitch; The Shay hosted two games in three days (Halifax v Swinton Lions and FC Halifax Town v Barnet then yesterday's FC Halifax Town v Ebbsfleet United game was called off because of an unfit pitch. If Halifax-Dewsbury goes ahead this afternoon, I can see the Shay pitch being wrecked for months. Synthetic pitches are the answer.

It's stopped snowing now. Appears to be brightening up a bit. Just pretty cold and damp now.

Coldest I've ever been at a game was for a Challenge Cup tie at York in the early 1970's and I've been to Watersheddings on Boxing Day !

The football club played on the pitch yesterday and they are due to play at home again on Tuesday.
