I see this as great opportunity for the game as a whole and I hope the FTA relationship for Cats develops further.

It'll be interesting to see if one of the outcomes for sports following Covid is a real change to TV rights. Things are being done differently right now, I wonder if the genie can be put back in the bottle and return to a modest % of games being covered. This French development is great news.

I said to her recently for someone who has a strong commitment to conservation don`t you get sick of stories about koalas stuck up telegraph poles or a seal with a plastic bag over it`s  head. She said that they were just glad to have any story in the media, no matter how tenuous the link.

Sounds a bit like Rugby League outside of the heartlands.

Crossed my mind as well. Wouldn`t want to cause any visa issues!🥴

Nothing ventured , nothing gained.

Wouldn`t want to interview a koala who`d been stuck up a telegraph pole. Might be even more leaky than normal.

Back on topic. L`Equipe are not likely to draw attention to the history of French RL if they can avoid it. Too many vested interests, too much national pride at stake. And they`re more likely to focus on Folau than Maloney.

Your second and third paragraphs have shattered all my illusions about the integrity of journalism. It can`t be true. I`m in despair, inconsolable.

Love the genealogy idea. Mind you, if journalists are as lacking in moral fibre as you suggest, it`s a risk. And don`t forget Vichy. If L`Equipe go looking for a link with the British prison system, every chance they`ll strike Aussie gold.

Not forgetting the disused overgrown railway line branching off to some ugly looking concentration camp style buildings near to Perpignan airport where the jews gypsies communists socialists and just about anyone else who didn't fit in were shipped out to Germany from (With plenty of local co-operation 😞

Is there travel allowed  between France and England?  If so a travelling band of opposition fans would look great in the stands (please no fighting) and maybe around the Town center before the game (all in good spirits of course).

All done in the right spirit would look great.

Especially for the T.V. cameras at the game.

Maybe the RLF could contact Gausch and see about setting aside a block of say 500 tickets for English fans or more if sales are slow.

I'm not sure that anybody has answered your question, Rocket.  The answer is, yes, you can now travel between England and France with no quarantine restrictions.

I agree a friendly mix of fans would be good.  Just the fact that les Dracs can have some fans is great news, and makes the alleged opposition of some in SL to games in Perpignan with crowds present seem truly petty and bizarre, if true.

Thank you for your reply Wiltshire.

Yes I was really just considering the optics of some opposition flags in the crowd for the TV cameras and the people watching at home.

Of course If the word ` sell-out ` can be attached to an event  it never hurts  either. Especially when one is trying to promote a coming match or when reviewing one.

In case your interested I spotted an endangered Black-Necked Stork on my farm the other day.

Pleasingly it was in one of the swampy areas that I have fenced off to keep the cattle out of.

Thanks for your post, Rocket.  I agree with you, allowing some opposition fans into the Stade Gilbert Brutus would certainly help the atmosphere.  Whether that is possible given commitments to season ticket holders and sponsors that Les Dracs may have, I am not sure.

Good news about the black-necked stork.  Maybe you should mention this sighting on the "spuggies and jackdaws and hedgehogs and frogs" page of the "any other business" section of this forum.

I was under the impression that only Catalans season ticket holders and sponsors are permitted to attend as presently they add up to the 5000 figure. If some of these don't attend for what ever reason will they be on sale to the general public? The other inssue could see the government increase capacity from September.

I've never seen these buildings are they close to the airport?

It Rivesaltes.  The camp had all the asbestos stripped out around 6 years ago and they’ve turned into a museum to tell its story over the years.

About 10 minutes drive west from the Carrefour at Claira .  Go through 3 or 4 roundabouts do a right and the memorial is on the left - turn right to the camp.  Camp Joffre.

You probably won’t see it as you’ll come down the D900 to miss the Peage.  A few kilometres south of Salses and it’ll be on you right, about 1km away.

Quite an interesting story all that.  Not for the French, Spanish or Catalans though.

According to the papers today the Government are saying that the present 5000 figure in France could be changed from 15th August. They want each department (district councils) to be able to intervene taking into local conditions. In the case of the Dragons the people at the Pyrenees Oriental department would be involved directly with the club. At the moment the PO and Aude areas were most Dragons fans come from have only hand full of people in hospital with the virus and its been like that for several months. The expectations are only seating areas to be used, everyone to wear masks, distancing to be continued with groups of up to 10 permitted from one booking.

When I was writing that post I thought that I may have been a little heavy-handed, but I was thinking how the opportunity for good P.R. can quickly turn into a disaster. I gather the Wire are the more feisty fans.

The content in yesterdays L'Equipe paper mentioned athletics, rugby à xiii and motor sports as the highlights for the coming month. International athletics from Europe and listed all four of the Catalans games to feature across the Channel. Last night during their live  coverage of the Portugese Cup Final between Benfica-FC Porto the commentors mentioned a couple times the match at Leeds on Sunday. Additionally at half time a caption popped up of Michael McIlorum and a cyclist promoting Sundays events and a few seconds of the Nou Camp game against Wigan. Interestingly too one the adverts at the break was of the Dragons latest sponsors - high altitude village Font-Romeu in the Pyrenees which accommodates international sports teams all the year round.

To have the 4 games this month on Sundays  involving a French team crossing Channel is different to the Tests between England-Kiwis. Be intersting to see how it all unfolds.

All we need now is the Dragons doing their bit. Reading your post makes me doubly disappointed with the result last night. Come on Dragons. What a bloody way to start this great opportunity.

Their Coach if he is worth a pinch of #### should have been tearing strips off them yesterday. Unless he`s the problem.
