Why was selection for this tournament restricted to the Utah clubs?

Utah currently has the only junior structure in the US.

I understand this weekend prior to the Newcastle Rochdale match Scotland A will be playing in a warm up match for their match against the Netherlands on the 14th Sept

Not sure who their playing and why in Newcastle but great to see the local lads getting a run out on the international scene

PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE DISTRIBUTION

FROM: ERL MEDIA DEPARTMENT

DATE: 16 September 2024

NETHERLANDS DEFEAT SCOTLAND

Damon Koolstra led the way for the Netherlands with two tries and five goals as they defeated Scotland 34-26 in an exciting clash at sunny Sassenheim in front of an appreciative crowd.

The Wests Tigers Mackay scrum half opened and closed the try scoring for the hosts and controlled the game. “It was an outstanding effort even though we gave Scotland some easy ball,” said Netherlands men’s head coach Dave Hunter. “We defended our line well and the players dug deep for each other, that’s what got us the win. We had good impact from the bench, our debutants went really well and it was the physical type of game we needed.”

Mitch Donnelly’s touchdowns either side of half time were also significant in the victory.

Scotland fielded a side exclusively of debutants as they rewarded domestic players, with fourteen born in the country and were competitive throughout. Head coach, Adam Houston, commented: “I’m proud of the effort the boys have shown all the way through and this is hopefully just the start of things.

“We gave full international debuts to 17 players today, the first time that has happened since game one in 199 which is fantastic, especially as they all came through our pathways. The lads are disappointed but we will regroup and move forward with renewed excitement.”

Interchanges: Mitch Donnelly, Tom Van Bokhoven, Bonne Wilce, Edson Neves.

Goals - Koolstra 5/6

SCOTLAND 26

2 in Scotland, about time. It cant be just a token gesture though. They need to actually follow this through and pick these lads and not have more trials in England where they just pick those lads instead.

So the SRL have been busy behind the scenes recently with trials at U16 U18 and women’s

Over 70 individuals turned to at the U16 18 level and coaching teams put in place

Over 20 females turned up for their first ever meet up, and more planned

Club wise there were murmurs of a 4th club but as of yet nothing. Edinburgh Forth Valley and Glasgow still very active.
Glasgow take on Chorley Panthers today in a pre season Friendly

Teams have been busy getting sponsors onboard so here’s hoping for a successful year and keep the sport moving in the right direction

Fantastic news!  That is huge!  Hopefully the majority will come back for more.  Hopefully Scotland can put on enough activities / matches to keep them engaged as well.

So the new season is nearly upon us with a new 9s event and a new team. West End Warriors join the league this year, based at Hillhead Glasgow, nothing much else known but I’ll find out, but the season begins on May 10th in Edinburgh with a 9s tournament

17th May sees Forth Valley take on Glasgow and West End Warriors host Edinburgh

with playoffs and grand final later in the year

Meanwhile Scotland u16’s take on a future Dons team tonight at Bentley ARLFC KO 6pm

Pleasing to see a new team. Hopefully all of the above is a sign that Scotland are finding their feet again and ready to grow.

Scotland RL seem to be taking a slow methodical approach making sure development teams are in place so hopefully more young Scots will come across codes. It’s all positive moves

I was surprised to see a former colleague of mine, who was a staunch Scotland Union fan in the central belt, post on LI that his son, who now plays for Glasgow RL, had been chosen to represent Scotland U18s RL. He’d also secured sponsorship for the team through a related company!
