As i predicted once Carcassonne showed interest Limoux followed Lezignan will be next followed by i predict Albi this whole thing needs sorting out as all these clubs leaving will be the death of the French Elite 1.

Only way forward is for a serious Anglo French cup with groups which will stop this madness, problem is it will take someone with vision * to put it all together and this wont happen from the RFL who are potless and rudderless.

I cannot see anyone independently putting this together as the last time a serious proposal was put forward to the RFL (Girona Nines) all they did was take the idea themselves and put it out for commercial tender which received not one bid (Surprise Surprise) and then swept the whole thing under the carpet.

Do you think they will all apply as separate entities or as a joint venture?

Would if make sense for Elite to switch to summer and become a French conference alongside League 1?

Average number of persons for away trip (Team/Coaches/Support Staff etc) 25

2 nights away

Average return air fare PP (Minimum) 250

2 nights hotel and food PP 100

Coach 1500

Total per match 10150 per match

Group matches (Say groups of 4 3 away matches each team) 30450 per club

2 groups of 8 teams

Semi Finals

Final

We are looking at around 300K to cover these costs + stadium hire for the Final costs etc.

Any takers ?

Elite 1 are on the whole  somewhat stronger than League 1 but a knock out  between the two would be fun. Expansionist and marketable. And would be a shot in the arm for both competitions but would need to be carefully fixtured. Elite 1 needs to be left in winter.

That £300 k is not far off the mark. The RFL turnover is north of £20 million. Would they have the vision to pump prime it or would League 1 instead press  for  a divvy for themselves ?

Most possibly all teams travel in and out on the same day for league games. So you wouldn’t need any over night stays.

@ATLANTISMAN there’s no evidence RL fans want a cup style tournament. If anything, the contrary. The thing in FFRXIII’s favour is that Elite 1 is played when the biggest consumer of RL is lacking content. The biggest thing working against FFRXIII is the language.  Record the games with English commentary, tell the stories, build the hype and get the games on Kayo Sports. This has never really been attempted. League 1 is not the saviour for the top Elite 1 teams.

Haven't they just reformed the 1895 cup to provide more knock out fixtures for League 1.?

Your evidence that there is no appetite from fans is based on what exactly ?

All Elite 1  clubs need to remain in France  and in winter but if you asked any of the players from either country  if they fancied it  I'm sure they would snatch your hand off.

Never going to happen though without funding.

Evidence = spectators, viewership, broadcast deals, sponsorship dollars. All have dropped away for the Challenge Cup. The Lord Derby used to be much bigger too. Australia no longer has any cup tournaments at professional level.

Our competitions are based on a home and away fixture formula followed at the business end of the season by a knock out competition involving in the case of SL half of it's teams.

That's all that  is being suggested here trans channel. Hugely successful in RU........
