The Super League Trophy

I would be happy to rename the MoM in the GF for Burrow, as others have said. I don't think literally copying the NRL trophy is the way to go though ..

It almost as if we're going to wait until it's too late to do it properly. The Man of Steel Award was named after the wrong person, so we have form for that. (Prescott was known for his charity work and not for being the best player in the competition in any year, we could have done as the NFL do with their Walter Peyton Award, but got it wrong.)

What?! Awards aren't always named for the best player but for an individual that has a profound impact on the sport unless I'm mistaken and Ray French commentated on a particularly good 1895 cup match or Harry Sunderland had a stormer at OT.

The trouble is this stuff is so subjective. Someone else comes along in 10 years and there will be the same kind of calls.

The Man of Steel Award is awarded to the best player, the RFL, or Super League, made the wrong decision for the right reason in naming something after Steve Prescott. There were better ways of actually honouring his legacy as a person than an award which could have been named after a number of individuals.

I haven't got any problems with Prescott being on the MoS award, it doesn't have to be because he was or wasn't the best player, his name was put on the award for his contributions and influence rather than anything else.

It's why I have no problem with Burrow being on the MoM award, although he did win it himself before, it is for his whole story/career and life.

Wasn’t there a thread a few years back about taking Harry Sunderland’s name off the trophy named in his honour due to something he allegedly said?

Don't agree with this and didn't agree with the Man of Steel naming either.

Marginally more sympathetic to the renaming of the Harry Sunderland after Burrow. Partly because Sunderland has some question marks about him that we may want to address plus at least Burrow actually won it twice, once particularly spectacularly, so has an obvious link to the award and to the Grand Final as an event.

Overall though I think this sort of thing benefits from a bit more distance in time and some proper consideration.

It's really strange how the coach of the year isn't named after a trailblazer, or the top points scorer isn't given the Neil Fox Trophy. They named the player of the match for the 1895 final, but nothing for the Women's Challenge Cup!

Thanks for posting that and for avoiding directly calling Sunderland a racist . "Sentient being of the Match" award name  sits well with the über-socialist Collins.  Having listened,  I'm firmly in favour of keeping the Harry Sunderland Trophy exactly as it is.

Agree completely.

I don't think these decisions should be made based on emotion, which is exactly what was done with the MoS award.
