That’s pretty big news. Does the article discuss whether this would be an exhibition or for SL points?

The article says it would be be played for competition points yes.

That’s big too as it would require collaboration not just from the clubs but from the RFL/SL too.

This surely means one of two things are happening here:

1. The RFL/SL a being brought in as part owners of the event; or more likely

2. The NRL will pay a fee to the clubs and the RFL/SL to have them there

In any instance, it demonstrates the NRL perceive the game in the northern hemisphere to hold some reasonable commercial value. Is this a case of the NRL testing market value of the SL and its fans for future opportunities currently being discussed on other threads?

SL in the USA actually makes more sense than the NRL because of the time difference.

For the fans they bring.

I’d personally rather see an NRL triple header or maybe even WCC which would probably be a nightmare to organize considering the availability of teams and deadlines of confirmed teams.

I doubt the RFL/SL can afford to buy a piece of this unless we return to bartering. I believe the lease on Odsal is available.

It will be Las Vegas that benefits from that not the NRL.

Which in a way is still good for the game as it increases the likelihood of continuing this experiment/project beyond the current 5 year deal.

SL representatives attended the first event, these discussions have been ongoing since then with NRL and hopefully it is part of a wider USA growth strategy.

Beyond Vegas/USA, this also indicates there is an improving relationship between the 2 organisations which has to be good for the game in general.

It does mention points would be at stake but it’s all still in the discussion stage as yet.

Does it also indicate that not many NRL clubs are putting up their hands for a Vegas break?

Are you asking or suggesting clubs aren’t interested? From my understanding there are plenty of NRL clubs keen.

Far from it as the warriors, storm and panthers are all keen to play in vegas.

Will they need two separate Russel Crowe promos this time, one explaining the NRL rules then another explaining the Super League rules?

And from what I’ve seen there are just as many that aren’t as keen.
