Changing the handball interpretation mid tournament seems very rugby league.

Ah the old 'this season we're gonna clamp down on x' followed by 2 weeks of chaos before completely reneging on it by week 3.

In a similar vein, playing good players out of position is very GB/Eng Rugby League. Richard Horne on the wing anyone?

I'm sure if we win all will be forgotten, but playing Saka at left-wing when he's previously publicly said that he doesn't want to play there, feels like something that a losing coach could be battered with afterwards.

Part me thinks that Southgate is somewhat sadistically determined to be pillored when he gets home.

They best win today. Otherwise Southgate will get crucified. Honestly… WTF is he doing not playing TAA in that right position? Trippier best have the game of his life and set up about 10 chances…

They're making more forward runs, more positive forward passing down the middle, some things have certainly changed. Still a lot of passing along the back line, passing back to the keeper, still quite cautious but it has been a bit better. The defence is looking strong and we've had a lot of the possession, not letting Switzerland into the game much, just need to do more with that possession.

Big improvement in general play without being too dangerous.

Definitely positives if we can get a win.

Still unbalanced down the left. Gordon would revolutionise the team.

Disaster for England. We've been on the back foot for quite a while in this half and this is the frustration with Southgate. Other managers in this competition have made decisions as soon as things stop working as they should. Southgate just doesn't seem to do anything at all.

I'd like to see Ivan Toney brought on. I think we need to try to get balls into the box quickly. The Swiss left centre back isn't great in the air, so if we can get someone like Toney onto the field I think he could really cause them problems, especially if Bellingham plays just behind him waiting for a knock down.

I just saw a Hull FC flag in the crowd! Representing even in Germany at a different sport!! 😁

There was a Hull flag at the Denmark game.

A slightly better performance, and one that mostly neutralised a team who had looked so good in their previous game. Both sides clearly well drilled on penalties but England edge it.

The Swiss will be gutted but, *just*, on balance, I think England deserved it.

I've got a cat on my knee at the moment so I've just been silently punching the air as each penalty went in. My God that was hard to hold back the cheering!! 🤣😁🤣😁

Do geese have knees let alone cats? 😳

England have absolutely stunk out the tournament yet are in the semis.

You're mixing England up with France.

5 superb penalties from England. Well done.

But that left side is still not working. Trippier is not a left wing back and Eze isn’t either. Why or why does he not use Gordon? Glad to see Shaw get minutes. He’ll make a huge difference if he can play 90mins.

Well neither have been much good in fairness.

I think your assessment of this game is reasonable, btw.
