Trojan Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 I've been looking at a topic on Facebook about Neil Fox and why he's not on the Wembley plinth. Can anyone enlighten me as to how the selection of those that are on there was arrived at? What is most surprising thinking about it, is that while the game's heartlands are in Lancashire, Yorkshire, and Cumbria, there's no representation from the latter two counties. “Few thought him even a starter. There were many who thought themselves smarter. But he ended PM, CH and OM. An Earl and a Knight of the Garter.” Clement Attlee.

As a proud Yorkshireman I don't have any issue with those selected being "non-Tykes" or playing for non-Yorkshire clubs. It's a celebration of the Cup at Wembley. And anyway, it was built by a firm from Hull! 1
RigbyLuger Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 As soon as you open things up to public votes, it all goes wrong.
Padge Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 They should call it the Wigan Statue. Ashton - played @ Wigan Boston - played @ Wigan Offiah - played @ Wigan Murphy -coached @ Wigan Risman - had a pint in Wigan Visit my photography site www.padge.smugmug.com Radio 5 Live: Saturday 14 April 2007 Dave Whelan "In Wigan rugby will always be king" This country's wealth was created by men in overalls, it was destroyed by men in suits.
Hopie Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 His name is on the statue plinth, but he didn't make the list for the statue itself.

Of course, but it seems quite remarkable that he isn't there, given his record. I think Shaun felt quite hurt by being overlooked, even when the shortlist of potential candidates was being drawn up. And that is not to say that any of the players who are included don't deserve to be there.

Part of the voting process involved fans, a lot of fans did not like Edwards' perceived arrogance, a lot did not like him going to union. Maybe if he didn't hit the charts in that category he went way down the list. You are the journ in the inner sanctum Martyn, you tell us why. I would have gone for thirteen on statue. I know £££. Trojan Posted June 21, 2024 Author Posted June 21, 2024 Edwards was s great player but not a "big name" like Offiah “Few thought him even a starter. There were many who thought themselves smarter. But he ended PM, CH and OM. An Earl and a Knight of the Garter.” Clement Attlee.
OMEGA Posted June 23, 2024 Posted June 23, 2024 (edited) Neil Fox is a big omission from the statue. He was the record points scorer in a Wembley Final (2 try’s & 7 goals) for many years until a one sided mismatch allowed someone to pip his points tally. He's graced the Wembley field a number of times for both Wakefield Trinity and Great Britain and always scored heavily and played well, winning the Lance Todd Trophy in 62 . Of course he’s the brother of the great Don Fox who arguably has the most iconic Rugby League drama at Wembley if not ever. Then there’s the fact that Neil is the World Record point scorer of all time, a total that will never be surpassed and which was achieved during the 3pt try era. Edited June 23, 2024 by OMEGA 2 1
