They brought more than cas to us, I’d say 3,000 were there

The delights of Owl Lane are overshadowed by those of Mount Pleasant though which, combined with school holidays etc would make a visiting attendance of 2000 more likely. This would still be a very welcome boost to the coffers, though.

I do hope that they don't go home too disappointed.

I'm hoping / expecting more than 2,000. Reckon it'll be 3,000.

If there is a good attendance on Sunday, one thing that is certain, is that it will be a very long time into the future before there is another sizeable crowd watching Dewsbury at that ground.

"Make the most of every penny that you can on Sunday". That's my message to the owners of the club.

"visiting attendance" is my point. How many Dewsbury fans will attend/there are is moot.

No doubt you make the CC draw?

Our upcoming home games against Barrow and Whitehaven should be a good indicator of how many ‘hardcore’ fans we have left under the current regime.

Even “hardcore” fans could miss a match, especially at this time of year. I know one supporter who is probably gutted because he will miss Sunday’s match and I will be absent from a few forthcoming games, most through circumstance, not choice.

How many did we have under previous regimes?

Were you watching then?

Been watching since we had to play at Batley when we were in the old 3rd division and even then we regularly got crowds into 4 figures.

I can’t see that happening against Barrow or Whitehaven in the coming weeks or indeed next year against anyone in League 1.

At a guess 500 or so.

Indeed, as it applies to me as I am currently laid up with a broken ankle so have not been to a game for a while. Still miss it though even though it is a poor season all told - and you should always look in the bright side and a visit to Cornwall again won’t go amiss (not sure about Goole though, if it happens!)

It is surprising what memory can do to all of us. I often imagine attendances were higher, yet:

Last season at Crown Flatt - Nottingham (H) 465; Chorley (H) 539. Both in April so not poor weather. Even the last ever game there, against Barrow, only attracted 1321.

First season at Batley, when we won more than usual, the gates were a mix of three and four figure.

It has always been hard work attracting decent gates to Dewsbury, no matter which "regime" as you put it.

The year that we won the league we had some great gates and averaged 1866, a 50% increase on the previous season. The following year it fell right back down again, whence the steady decline in numbers began, dropping below 1000 in 2003. Fickle fans and not much different from other clubs.

It must have been reassuring to the club to see such a healthy attendance with, presumably, an increase in the coffers for all. The Royal Oak also seemed to be doing a roaring trade after the match, which is good to see.

Just like at the Bradford game it was a real pleasure to be surrounded by genuine fans brought up in a much higher standard of RL than that to which we have been accustomed, and who shared this experience generously at all times. Erudite, balanced knowledgeable and encouraging good rugby from both sides. It is difficult to decide which group of fans it was more enjoyable to be amongst this season.

Yes and remarkably generous in their appreciation of our players efforts remembering that they too were bottom only last season and were relegated....😊

Have to say that the Wakefield species near us were very pleasant and despite the score I had a very enjoyable afternoon.
