This is a local issue for the fans of Wakey and Cas, other fans should butt out of any merger talks rolleyes.gif

Everytime I see a thread like this I wonder how long until Salford get dragged into it. Again I wasn't disappointed.

Wasn't it Mr Box that pulled the council's support for the Clarence Park site (which they proposed and backed for three years)?

Not sure why?
Now then, it's a race between Sandie....and Fairburn....and the little man is in........yeees he's in.

I, just like those Castleford supporters felt that the ball should have gone to David Plange but he put the bit betwen his teeth...and it was a try

Kevin Ward - best player I have ever seen

The real Mick Gledhill is what you see on here, a Bradford fan ........, but deep down knows that Bradford are just not good enough to challenge the likes of Leeds & St Helens.

If a rich benefactor can be found to run a thriving London club then it would make more sense that they'd replace the basketcase that is Quins

What odds on Lenighan senior buying Oxford Uniteds ground for his football team and Lenighan junior taking over his dads shares at Quins at some point in the future?

And you can't blame Widnes fans for a change ! dry.gif

How is your Stadium coming along ? Any actual building started, ( and i don't mean clearance of the Site ) or bricks been layed yet ?

Would make sense for Quins to play out of Oxford under that scenario but they'd need a new name or perhaps go back to the Broncos albeit without the London (best to widen their appeal like Crusaders), then they could be the biggest sports club in Oxfordshire and be in the Thames Valley area that provided much of London Broncos' support. Would keep the South East players in the game and allow more financial viability and sharing the costs between the two clubs. Longer term I'd then like to see a club back in London, but next time East London where there's more junior development (as there is in South London) or in fact almost anywhere but the RU heartland of West London

Have the Wakefield/Castleford people only just realised that if Widnes win the NR Cup Final on Sunday they are nailed on certs for SL?
With Nigel Wood saying some time ago that a Championship club will get a SL licence in 2012 that leaves some clubs vulnerable. Saints, Salford, Cas & Wakey.
Saints are well on the way and it won't be a problem, I don't think!
Salford likewise, the RFL won't hand over the Manchester/Salford conurbation to Sale Sharks.
Wakey and Cas are very vulnerable.
This ground share is late, very late for licence consideration next year.
I can't help feeling one of those two will drop out.

As was said on here about mergers between the two. That is up to them but they had better get it sorted quickly.
A merged club would be guaranteed a SL spot. Separate neither may survive in SL.

The result on Sunday doesn't matter for Widnes, they have the box ticked. They have concentrated this year on exposing their juniors, another box ticked. The NR Cup would just be a bonus.

Cas & Wakey, as you say are the vulnerable clubs. The RFL may have to make a stark choice if they both match up (and fall down) in all the same areas, do they edge out the ones who have been the most stuborn aboutjoint ventures in the past and offer a chance to the other one, or do they add on the pressure and say both in as one or both out. Take your pick.

There is also the possibility of a club folding outside of the four you mentioned.

Spot on

This ground revue is a done deal, the prefered location has already been decided and it is Glasshoughton.
Can any see 2SL franchise places being given to 2 mid table teams operating out of the same stadium in a one house town with a maximum population of 40,000.

Not a chance

Ditto, there's a few I can think of with whispers of financial troubles surrounding them. Crusaders still aren't out of the woods yet, Harlequins losing a lot of money, Hull KR apparently have a lot of debt, and there's apparantly going to be an exodus of players at Catalans at the end of the season...

being a cas fan i have been in favour of a ground share for all 3 teams for many years now. it would need to be built somewhere between the existing 3 grounds, so imho the best location would be off the normanton bypass.

why its taken this long for the situation to arise is beyond me a blind man on a galloping horse could see what was coming. the main stumbling block though is the stubborn dyed in the wool fans. we were discussing the issue of a shared ground in the club last night and one woman told me that after filling out a survey for the new wakefield ground she had put in the 'any other comments' section "if wakefield ever share a ground with castleford i for one will never go to watch wakefield again" i cant believe that there a re some people out there who are to stupid to see that neither club is going to get its own ground and if they dont share then neither club will be in super league after the next round of franchises!!!

i'd also state that i WOULD watch a merged team in super league. i'd rather watch cas survive in some top tier guise than see them go into a terminal decline and never play in super league again. i admit tho that i am probably in a minority and will now get slagged off by every other cas and wakey fan on here sad.gif

No conspiracy to be had! But can you rule it out?

Harlequins are in limbo over ownership, Crusaders have had to relocate once already, who's to say they are a safe bet until they have a few more seasons under there belt. Who knows whats going on behind the scenes at the other 12 clubs and who's going to be next not to pay the tax man, overspend on players or loose a backer!
