Read this in the League Express this morning,

"Firstly congratulations to Featherstone Rovers for finishing top of the championship table at the end of the regular season.This is an achievment they should be proud of.

However,when browsing their website,i noticed they are calling themselves " Champions 2010 " and are even selling merchandise to this effect.

I thought to be champions you had to win the play offs.or have the goal posts been moved ? I belive that the Rugby League should intervene and ask Featherstone to remove their self proclaimed title and all associated merchandise until after the play off final.

They should only be allowed to call themselves Champions and sell associated merchandise when and IF they win the Grand Final." :rolleyes:

What a load of rubbish we have won the Championship therfore we are Champions,if we win the Grand Final we will be Grand Final winners. :D

We like many other traditional clubs and supporters know that we have just won the league so EVERYONE knows "WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS" no matter what the IDIOTS at Red Hall want to call it.

END OF ARGUMENT

IF we are fortunate to win the grand final or even get there we will be Grand Final Winners

Up until about 12 years ago the league winners WERE champions, unfortunately that changed (for the worst might i add).

We are the league winners not champions.

Just someone who is a pedantic, jealous bore. Don't worry as League leaders we ARE champions, we have finished FIRST in the league, we now have to emulate that in the play offs, all anyone has to do is look at the league table, the points for and against, the jealousy of other fans from other clubs. I don't care what anyone else things Featherstone Rovers Are CHAMPIONS. Let the small minded think whatever they wish.

To be a ROVER is a privilege not to be taken lightly, with fans like ours, we will always be honoured.

Isnt a champion someone who wins a championship ?? :dry:

Rovers Won the championship

Rovers = Champions

The Championship is the name of the competition, the winner is determined by the end of season play-offs, but I thought that the whole merchandising thing was being about League Champions in the first place...

Cummins Out.

Its correct, we won the league leaders shield but the champions are the grand finals winners unfortunately as it works in modern rugby league. Leeds Rhinos have been the Super League champions for last 3 years, they haven't finished top every season though.

You can toe the party line if you want but as far as i'm concerned we are the champions as are Wigan and Hunslet. The RL and all their lackeys can go take a flying jump. I will never have any respect for the powers that be whilst ever they run our game for the chosen few only.

Another attempt at money making.IMO, the team that finishes the top should not have to go through all the playoff routine. We are the top and as such, the teams below us should fight it out for the privilege of meeting us in the final.

As for the comments in the RLE from a Halifax fan, sour grapes do spring to mind.

Rovers won the league

Rovers = League winners

Rovers = League winners

Rovers = Play off winners (fingers crossed)

That means no one are 'champions' then :blink::blink:

Don't you just love the technicalities and pettiness of pedantic people :wacko::wacko:

The weak conform, the strong survive.

Did anyone try telling Chelsea they are not football's premiership champions because they didn't win a play off?

The team who are at the top of the league at the end of the season are the league champions, a tournament involving 20 matches and played for throughout the season.

The end of season play offs is a knock out competition (sort of) and can be won by a team playing a maximum of 4 games. Unfortunately, those in charge of our game see the winners and runners up of this 4 game tournament as more worthy of being eligible to apply for Super League. The logic is illogical!!

You are not Champions, yet. You are the league leaders. To be Champions you have to win the Grand Final. Having said that you have been far and away the best team in the league this season and should go on to win the GF. The last time I can remember a team dominating the league as much as you was Leigh in 2001, they never even made it to the final though.

BTW years back when it was just 1 league weren't the champions always the play off winners.
