In most cases, non league football is doing pretty well for attendances but I've just seen that Rayners Layne v Moneyfields in the Isthmian South Central on Saturday drew a 'crowd' of 30.

The lowest official crowd I've been in is 22 for Amersham Town a while back and I do remember a club called Tokyngton Manor who went a little loopy and ended up drawing an official crowd of 2 one week.

Well Beverley haven't got going in their historic first season in the 9th division. After 5 games we are rooted to the bottom of the table with just 1 point and tonight we lost 6-5 at fellow strugglers Eccleshill United. Still, a long season ahead and I'm sure we'll get going soon!

A much improved performance from Beverley at home tonight has seen us beat Golcar 2-1 to get our first win of the season and lift us off the foot of the table! Hopefully we can kick on from here now. 301 in attendance.

Next home game is against Winterton in the FA Vase second round qualifying.

And to think we have financials problems in Rugby League.

Any of football's financial troubles should be balanced with the fact that there's huge tv deals incoming at Premier and EFL levels. Also the government do see football as important enough for communities to appoint a regulator to make sure monies are fairly distributed down the pyramid. There's no such governmental tender loving care for RL. As for Man Utd specifically,  they've just generated £661 million , for the year,  so despite the debt there's no serious worries over their long term health.

It's been well-known for years and years that Eufa rules forbid governmental interference of and control of football.

The proposed regulator will pass UEFA( not eufa) rules as it isn't interfering with football management of leagues, rules or structures of leagues etc. It's concerned with financial distribution,  grass roots funding,  fit and proper test for owners etc.

The Bournemouth-Chelsea game yesterday broke the record for the number of yellow cards in a Premier League game with 14.

And not a vicious tackle in sight. It seems there is a real clampdown on dissent as that accounted for a lot of the cards.

According to one website I saw, last year had the biggest overall average in the Football League's history at 17,000.

Do they play at that leisure centre where the rugby league team play? (With the pub opposite the Prem inn?)

They train on the 4G pitch at the leisure centre which is next to the RL pitch at The Potting Shed, the pub you mention. They play some preseason games there as well but not regular season games.

Regular season games are played at Norwood Park, also known as Norwood Recreation Ground, which they share with Beverley Cricket Club. The football pitch overlaps one of the cricket fields a little which makes the early weeks of the football season a bit awkward with fixtures often getting postponed and rearranged to accommodate the cricket, with the cricket being the main tenants.

If you're ever in the area let me know and we'll meet up. I'll happily show you round the town as I run a walkabout tour occasionally anyway. 😉

Ah...I guessed they would probably play there. We saw a the Bev Braves play incidentally when we visited Beverley (the sign outside the pub in the town centre is a great idea as we then knew it was happening!)... Will give you a shout if we go again!

Very impressed with MOTD CL. Great to have CL on fta,  the show was thorough,  all games from Tuesday and Wednesday shown with commentary even the games where just goals were shown. Surprised Lineker wasn't presenting,  and they've got Julien Laurens as a pundit, lured from TNT,an excellent pick.

As for the new format; jury out on that,  if Man City had drawn their first match at home in a four team group,  they'd be a worry if they'll qualify first or second,  which makes a big difference for the knockout draw. This time its not really a big deal with 7 games to go, so the jeopardy has lessened despite what UEFA may say.

There's more games today - do they make it on to any BBC show?

11.05 tonight BBC2

Unusual to have CL on Thursday ,it's because Europa and Conference Leagues haven't started yet. Henceforth it'll be Tuesday and Wednesday only. Now I wonder if Sky saw the rival appeal to TV watchers, in homes pubs etc of CL on TNT, and decided after the ODI between Eng and Aus it'll be a good idea to have the Wigan /Salford game on, deciding the LLS. So the Salford team selection might really be p***ing them off.

In the field of committee'd blazers that cover all sports in this country, those that run the National League may be the most grasping and grifting of the lot.

But this is why we watch sport

For me it was a good double save but a poor penalty and a poor header.

As far as double saves go it is good.

But I think people got carried away with talk of best ever save and on a par with Banks save against Pele in 1970 etc.

I've watched it a few times. The penalty save is absolutely because he judges it right and it's not the best penalty the world has ever seen. But then to get up and block what is actually a pretty smart header (down into the ground so it bounces, steadying so a dying ball has some more pace on it, and placed at an angle so he doesn't go crazy and send it over or wide - all what you would coach a striker to do) is incredible. In many ways, it's a mirror of Banks - albeit Banks had more time to see where the ball was going.

Pele’s header more powerful and less central though do you not think?

I should say that in the pantheon of double saves rather than single ones it (Raya’s) is still right up there.

Hard to judge power but, yes, it's the fact that he digs out and around the post that makes it.

All good stuff anyway!
