Live #RugbyLeague today in the fiercest derby in rugby league #RedStar vs #Partizan 2 pm And we are streaming it live http://Www.sportuzivo.tv

Just in case you're already suffering RL withdrawal symptoms. Not sure if that 2pm is UK time.

Just had a response on Twitter about the kickoff - that's 2pm GMT, not Serbian time.

Currently Red Star 0:6 Partizan. No sound on the feed, and the picture's a bit pixellated, but what the hell.

8:12 now. Both teams playing positive, hard-running Rugby, but their ambition sometimes outmatches their handling skills. Red Star playing in all red, Partizan in something you could tentatively describe as 'mutant Hull FC'.

Partizan win. They looked the stronger team, while Red Star were pacey but more error-prone. Good stuff.

Just a quick comment on Serbia.  I was actually in Belgrade this weekend, playing union at the same ground (Red Star) against the Serbian national rugby union team.  Their rugby union set up is shambolic - on a serious downward spiral.  Their team were atrocious, having dropped a division already this year, it looks like they will be down another division next year.

A number of their players and officials mentioned to us that Rugby League is on the up, and Serbia are becoming strong at RL. (They all mentioned how Serbia had beaten Italy, and one guy told me they had also beaten Greece - although I think that is wrong).  They said that players are moving to RL from union because RL has more money.  The players aren't being paid, but are being kitted out properly - boots/training gear etc.  They also said that RL games have actually been on TV in Serbia, and they were streaming the rugby union international online to make up for this somewhat.

We were flying back on Sunday, so I could not go down to see the RL game.  However - if there is a country where RL has a golden opportunity to push on past union, it is definitely Serbia, where the 15 man code is in a complete mess.

Yes, Greece beat Serbia in Belgrade the previous weekend to take the inaugural Balkan championship. They have beaten Hungary, Italy & Ukraine and lost to Russia this year.

I've been saying for a while but places like Serbia, Bosnia, Greece and the Ukraine where the game seems to be growing should be a focus of the international game's attention rather than obsessing over areas that don't seem to be interested much, just because Union is strong there. The opportunity to grow in a country without media bias towards Union is imperative.

In terms of clubs and playing numbers I think RL outstripped RU a few years back. And that's from a standing start a little over a decade ago, with virtually no ancestral players and very little external financing. The people at the Serbian RL have worked their backsides off, never complained when things went against them, and have been a shining light of RL development. Bit by bit, year by year, they push forward that little bit more. One day they'll qualify for a big event and boy will they have earned it.

...and then they'll immediately ditch the players that got them there and pick 20 aussies from the NRL who qualify because their grandmothers' possibly ate a bit of Serbian goulash while on holiday there once. Some reward  :good:

Say that to the face of the Serbian administrators and see what response you get.

Whether you like it or not it's the reality of the international game at the moment mate, did the last world cup not demonstrate that? They'll have to do it to avoid getting creamed 170-0 in every game.

did you know that the Serbian rugby league  own a good  hostel in Belgrade  for travellers on a budget  and all the profit from it goes to the Serbian rugby league to develop the game there .

Belgrade is getting a reputation as a good city to visit these days  with direct flights from Manchester and I think Gatwick

ah a sunday night in front of the telly watching old rugby league games.

I wasn't aware of that. What's the name of the hostel?

You quite clearly know nothing about the Serbian Rugby League. Less than nothing, in fact.
